The historic Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast hard, damaging tons of homes, vehicles, and business along with claiming dozens of lives. The repair efforts to rebuild cities all across the east coast have begun, and with hard work and determination the cities will be back to its shinning state once again.
The NBC network will look to ease the pain momentarily with a benefit concert set to air on Friday Nov. 2 at 8 pm Eastern time on all of the NBC networks, and even networks in which NBC does not own as well. This will mark the second time in the last seven years in the United States that NBC has put on a benefit concert after a major hurricane disaster. If you remember back in 2005, NBC volunteered to broadcast a benefit concert after the damage of Hurricane Katrina.
The 2005 concert featured music from Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Aaron Neville, along with excellent guest speakers. NBC announced the list of performers today for “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” and also mentioned that the telethon/concert will be an hour long event as well. The benefit concert and telethon will be loaded with popular and sensational music talents that include Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Sting and Christina Aguilera according to NY Times. Jimmy Fallon who is best be known right now as the host of NBC’s “Late Night” show will be making a guest appearance and speaking to the audience. He will be along side with Brian Williams, the anchor of “NBC Nightly News.
The event will be hosted by the Co-host of the Today show Matt Lauer and will be held at NBC’s Rockefeller Plaza studios. If you’re interested in watching the event you can catch it on any of the following stations; NBC, Bravo, CNBC, Syfy, G4, E!, MSNBC, USA, and Style.
The telethon will look to surpass what it achieved in donations from their 2005 Hurricane Katrina telethon in which they raised over $50 million for the Red Cross relief efforts. With the tremendous out pour of sympathy and prayers, there will sure be a very gracious amount of individuals that will contribute some money to help the relief efforts on the east coast.
