The Dubai police squad is getting what’s thought to be the most expensive patrol car, a specially modified Lamborghini Aventador costing $550,000 (£359,000).
Capable of speeds up to 217mph, this sports car, painted in green-and-white colors of the Dubai force, will not be used for pursuits. Instead, Gen. Khamis Matter al-Muzaina says it will be dispatched to tourist areas to “how classy Dubai is.”
Dubai Police unveiled their new squad car this week, which has the licence plate 8.
Local media reports said the Lamborghini Aventador is the crown jewel of a wider upgrade in Dubai police wheels. The police force also is adding Camaros, the American muscle car.
Dubai Police tweeted this photo of their crown jewel with this caption: “Latest #Dubai_Police patrols, now at your service. pic.twitter.com/rVkJ7JSpFI”
Once the news surfaced tweets came in stating “Only in Dubai” and “Officer, please cuff me in the Aventador and throw away the keys.”
With this latest addition, Dubai seeks to show their rebound from the debt crisis with plans in building the world’s largest Ferris wheel and a satellite city named after the city-state’s ruler.
Lamborghini launched the Aventador car this year in celebration of it’s 50th anniversary and has already sold out. According to reports, several of the vehicles were sold to Britain. The Aventador can go from 0 to 62mph in 2.9 seconds.
Lamborghini’s are also used by police forces in Italy, Panama and the UK.
