A 4-years’s grandfather went to pick up food for his family, who were visiting the area for Splash Universe water park on Tuesday night, when he went into the Dundee Burger King he got a little more than he bargained for.
The chief says the family discovered a marijuana pipe and notified police.
“He handed the kids meal that he had gotten at Burger King to his four-year-old grandson and when they opened it up they found a loaded marijuana pipe inside the kids meal,” Dundee Police Chief David Uhl, said.
A 23-year-old employee admitted to bringing the paraphernalia to work that day and hide it while he worked. He says he didn’t mean to give it out.
“He hid it somewhere in the store. We’re not quite sure how it ended up in there. Somehow, somebody picked it up and stuck it in there when they were packaging up the food. It is definitely strange,” Uhl said, according to Mail Online.
While at the Burger King, the grandfather said he had noticed suspicious interaction in the parking lot. “He did a really great thing: He wrote down a description of the car and gave a license plate,” Uhl said, KCTV reported.
When police were called to the scene they were able to identify the suspects with the grandfather’s information.
According to The Monroe News, when officers approached the car, the two friends ran into the woods. The officer, who got their phone number from the employee’s phone, told them that if they didn’t cooperate he would arrest them and tow their car. They returned and the responding officer found more drugs and paraphernalia in the suspect’s car. All three of the suspects were cited for drug paraphernalia, and could be brought up on further charges.
“Very serious when our children are involved,” Uhl said. “Luckily, this family was on top of it and saw it right away when the grandson opened it up.”
Uhl says police arrested the employee and two friends, ages 18 and 20. All three are awaiting charges.
