Costco Wholesale has decided to pull all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine a World Without Her,” from its store shelves nationwide.
Scott Losse, an inventory control specialist in the book department at the Costco Wholesale’s Issaquah, Washington, corporate office, has confirmed that a nationwide “pull-order” was issued for D’Souza’s book.
All copies will be required to be removed by July 15.
The book was officially released June 2. A corporate decision to return the books was issued July 1, just as it is about to debut on the New York Times bestseller list. It is currently ranked No. 1 at Amazon.
The reasoning to pull the book, “America: Imagine a World Without Her,” by Costco is that sales of the book have been too low to keep giving the book shelf space, but D’Souza and his supporters in the Republican party are crying foul, saying that Costco does not want such openly Conservative literature on its shelves.
The book’s description reads, “It is the Progressive view that is taught in our schools, that is preached by Hollywood, and that shapes the policies of the Obama administration. If America is a force for inequality and injustice in the world, its power deserves to be diminished; if traditional America is based on oppression and theft, then traditional America must be reformed—and the federal government can do the reforming.”
“In America: Imagine a World without Her D’Souza offers a passionate and sharply reasoned defense of America, knocking down every important accusation made by Progressives against our country,” it adds.
Costco has sold about 3,600 copies of the book nationwide. About 700 copies were sold last week as the film opened at more than 1,000 movie theaters nationwide.
The book is meant to accompany the release of D’Souza’s documentary that examines what D’Souza and fellow conservatives see as the decay of America at the hands of liberals.
Dinesh D’Souza, the creator of “2016: Obama’s America”, takes viewers through a discovery of who built America, in the times in which they lived, bled, and sacrificed in order to build a great nation such as Christopher Columbus, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and others.
D’Souza’s first documentary – “2016: Obama’s America,” which was released in 2012 – became one of the highest-grossing documentaries ever.
The author, Dinesh D’Souza was unaware of the removal from Costco shelves, saying, “If true, this would be very odd.”
“We’re in the process of finding out what’s happening. I look forward to getting to the bottom of this and continuing the strong relationship my publisher and I have always had with Costco and their millions of shoppers,” he told WND.
