Zainab Ansari, a six-year-old girl from Pakistan, was raped and murdered last January. Her body was found in a dump of garbage five days after she went missing on January 4.

On Wednesday, the 24-year-old convict Imran Ali was hanged in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Prison as part of his final punishment. Records show that Imran Ali was also convicted for kidnapping, and several rapes and murder.

Zainab’s father, Amin Ansari pleaded that Imran Ali should be hanged in public but was not granted by the Lahore High Court. Despite this, he still is satisfied with the type of justice that was given to his daughter. Along with his relatives, they witnessed the hanging of the murderer and rapist.

Before he was hanged, Jail authorities set the last meeting with Imran Ali’s family which last for about 45 minutes to secure their previous exchange of words. According to Zainab’s father, Ali has shown no signs of guilt and shame nor fear in his eyes while he was being brought in for execution.

During the days when her body went missing, the police did not take immediate action to investigate thoroughly until her body was found, according to the father, Amin Ansari. The CCTV footage of Zainab’s abduction which went viral on social media served as a petition to go on with the case was recovered by her relatives, not by the police.

According to reports, the authorities and people responsible for handling Zainab’s case were not responsive at all who urged the people to go out in protests and rallies. This case of rape and murder has stirred up fuel in anger among residents in Pakistan and people all throughout the world. Social media has also become a tool in initiating the start of the investigation. It started with the hashtag #JusticeforZainab which circulated on the internet along with the CCTV footage from the scene.

October 17, 2018, has been marked as a relief to many now that #JusticeforZainab has been attained. It’s been in the news and social media again today but in a better way. Her life may never come back to this world, and the most that we can do is to show their family that we stand as one in the name of justice.
