Arc System Works at long last revealed the official name of the long-teased upcoming new main title for the Guilty Gear franchise: Guilty Gear Strive. This is followed up by a character intro teaser for one of the oldest characters in the series.
The announcement was made today at the ARCREVO America 2019 event, presented by none other than the father of the Guilty Gear series himself, Daisuke Ishiwatari. As expected, the unveiling was met with considerable positive fanfare, considering that it has been quite a long while since the game was revealed without actually revealing its official title.
Undeniably though, the stronger applause immediately went to the next reveal just a moment after the official title drop. It was a new teaser for one of its launch characters, the ever enigmatic Dr. Faust.
The last game, Guilty Gear Xrd, was first officially released in 2014. Though it had additional titles under its main series, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator and Revelator 2, it remained as the only mainline title for about half a decade. With its very smoothly integrated 3D cel-shaded design and competitive fighting game-level balancing, it would seem that it will be the primary title for the franchise for a very long time. For comparison, there was an eight-year gap between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, so this development definitely was a delightful surprise for its fans during the first month of its unveiling.
As of now, seven characters have been revealed for the game so far: Sol, Ky, May, Axl, Chip, Potemkin, and now Dr.
Baldhead Faust. The pattern still remains; all of the known characters are so far characters that were introduced for the very first title of the series way back in 1998. Could this mean…?!
Guilty Gear Strive is slated to be officially released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 console sometime in 2020.
