Actor Cameron Boyce who is known for his roles in the Disney Channel Franchise Descendants and the TV series Jessie, passed away Saturday night at the age of 20 after suffering a seizure in his sleep, according to a statement from his family.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” a family spokesperson confirmed. Boyce died in his sleep “due to a seizure which was a result of an on-going medical condition,” ABC News announced on Saturday.
For those who did not recognize Cameron Boyce, he was an American actor and a native of Los Angeles, known for his roles in the feature films Mirrors, Eagle Eye, Grown Ups, and Grown Ups 2. He made a name in the film industry after playing the character Carlos in the Descendants TV films, as well as, for starring as Luke Ross on the Disney Channel comedy series Jessie.
He starred in Descendants, a 2015 American musical fantasy television film directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega. Cameron portrayed the role of Cruella De Vil’s son, and together with other teenage children, they were set on a mission to steal the Fairy Godmother’s wand and release their evil parents from captivity.
The young actor had been in the industry since he was nine years old — acting and delivering roles which seem steep for a little boy. Fuelled by a strong desire to express himself through his craft, Cameron received offers that took him to the limelight.
Cameron rose to fame after he took the project Jessie, an American comedy television series aired on Disney Channel from September 30, 2011, until October 16, 2015. He then played Keithie Feder, son of Leonard Feder portrayed by Adam Sandler in Grown Ups and the sequel. Keithie has been loved by fans, mostly by teenagers who can easily relate to his character in the film.
His friends said that Cameron was fond of charity works and dedicated himself to humanitarian work. He had raised thousands of pounds to provide wells for clean potable water in Swaziland, Africa. A project that touched everyone’s heart as clean drinking water in that part of Africa is challenging to achieve, making communities to rely only on rivers and other unsafe water sources.
He has notably been a good lad to former Vice President Joe Biden as he introduced him at the Biden Courage Awards, an organization committed to stopping campus sexual violence by altering the stigma, as well as, changing the culture that allows sexual assault to happen.
Disney has been both a home and a haven for Cameron for almost ten years, where he started his career as early as nine. It nurtured and honed Cameron into a talented and fine actor, capable of giving entertainment to his fans. At an early age, he promised to share his extraordinary talents with the world and with other hopeful kids like him.
When Disney Channel heard the sad news, the network then published a statement offering its deepest condolences to his family, castmates, and colleagues.
“He was an incredibly talented performer a remarkably caring and thoughtful person, and above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend,” says the network.
Disney joined the actor’s fans in grieving his untimely passing. “He will be dearly missed,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said.
Saddened by the news of Cameron’s death, his fans expressed their condolences and sympathies to the actor’s loved ones throughout social media. Some fans took the time to post past performances of the actor and reminisced his old movies and photos on Twitter.
Boyce was his family’s light, a soulful and a kind brother to his little cousins. The actor’s family was truly devastated to the untimely death of Cameron and expressed through an interview that they are “utterly heartbroken” for losing their brightest light. Now, the family was asking for privacy from fans, press, and the media to mourn in solitude.
They thanked the fans and those closest to Cameron for the outpouring of support and love and asked to pray for the soul of their son and brother. The actor is believed to appear in the new HBO show Mrs. Fletcher, according to ABC News.
