‘Jane The Virgin’ Season 5; Fans Don’t Want The Show To End

Supporters of the hit US TV series, Jane the Virgin, shares why they hope the show will not end.

Jane the Virgin season 5 is going to be the show’s finale, and it premiered last Monday on CW. It’s an American satirical romantic comedy-drama that debuted on The CW on October 13, 2014. Developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, it was an adaptation from Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen created by Perla Farias.

The show has become a real hit series in the American TV and was nominated at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and received the Peabody Award. Gina Rodriguez played as Jane Villanueva, a devout 23-year-old Latina virgin who becomes pregnant after undergoing accidental artificial insemination by her gynecologist.

The actress was praised for playing the role perfectly and even awarded as Best Actress for Television Series Musical or Comedy.

The fact that the show was selected as one of the top 10 Television Programs of 2014 by the American Film Institute proves that the series made an impact on the lives of every fan in the country. CW’s announcement on the fifth and final season of the show last April 2, 2018, saddened avid show supporters. It was Gina Rodriguez herself who spoke at an event in Texas referring to the next season as being the show’s last. It was supported by the executive producer, Brad Silberling, who echoed Gina’s comments and called it the finale. And, in May 2018, CW officially confirmed that the show’s fifth season would be it’s last.

The fourth season of Jane the Virgin wrapped up with a bang in April 2018 and the trailer for its next season leaves us with even more questions than the season four did. To those who have missed the entire seasons of the show, here’s the quick recap:

Set in Miami, the series shows the hardworking and religious life of a young Latin woman who vows to save her virginity until marriage. Her life turned upside down when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a check-up, and the biological father is a married man, a former playboy and the new owner of the hotel where Jane works. As the episodes progress, Jane is met with difficulties in her professional future and adjusting to pregnancy. To make matter worse, she also faced with the daunting prospect of choosing between the father of the baby and her detective boyfriend. The story evolves as her child grows, Jane’s writing career moves forward, and her family members develop independent plotlines.

For almost five years of bringing entertainment, the news that the all-time favorite series will be ending soon draws public attention, hence the making of a season 5 premiere review. Z6mag, among all other entertainment online magazine, will also be giving its thoughts on the season finale airing last Wednesday.

The big comeback of the show is Michael, who happens to be back from the dead. But, the issue here is not who shot him on the fourth season but his new identity. He had amnesia and to make matter worse; he is now ‘Jason’ who is completely different from Michael’s personality on the past episodes. It was a big twist on the show’s plot and created a lot of intriguing questions from the viewers. However, let us not focus on the questions as it complicates things further, but deal with Michael’s impact on Jane’s life after his return.

It sounds to me that fans are trying to figure out what will happen in season 5, but the premiere gives us the confidence to predict.

Michael’s comeback triggers a self-assessment throughout the entire world of the show. It made Jane reassess her feelings with Rafael which most of the fans, are expected to see this season and reconsider her relationship whether she’s finally ready to commit to him.

In the very beginning of the show, it is evident that the sudden arrival of Michael after years of leaving Jane hanging onto what seems to be endless what-ifs reflects his and Jane’s failing marriage. His death changes Jane and her family, and forces Jane to reconsider the way she lived her life. She tells her mom and grandmother that she had finally decided what to write on her novel and finally integrates all of the missing pieces of her life.

But, the important thing is, Rogelio believes that Michael, who is now ‘Jason’ will be able to regain his memories. Just like Rogelio, fans are confident that Jane, although the final season is coming to an end, will continue to inspire young Americans.  And fans, also hope to see another show as good and as remarkable as this one.
