‘Riverdale’ show executives announced that they’ve shut down the set for the meantime to mourn on the passing of one of its actors, Luke Perry.
Luke passed away on Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, closest family including his mother Ann Bennett, step-father Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other closest friends on the day of his last breath.
As reported last Wednesday, Archie’s father on Riverdale, Luke Perry, suffered from a ‘massive stroke’ and was immediately brought to the hospital at exactly 9:40 in the morning. The actor was found lying at his Sherman Oaks, CA home faced down when the paramedics arrived on the scene. He was ‘responsive, but his condition deteriorated’ according to the emergency team who brought the actor to the hospital.
As of that time, the actor’s condition was still unknown. A representative of the actor told the press last Thursday that Mr. Perry was still under observation at the hospital, adding that doctors had sedated Luke in hopes of giving his brain a fighting chance to recover from the trauma caused by the stroke. However, he remained ‘unconscious’ for almost four days, and the damage created by the sudden occurrence was already too extensive.
After being in a coma state, Luke died at the age of 52 on March 4.
Coy Luther Perry III or famously known as Luke Perry was popularly known on his heartthrob role as Dylan McKay on the 90210 Beverly Hills hit series which aired from the year 1990 to 2000. He currently stars as Fred Andrews, Archie’s father on CW series Riverdale
After hearing the sad news on Perry’s condition, a number of the actor’s former 90210 co-stars posted on social media extending their support emotionally and spiritually. Other celebrities wished for his fast recovery including Ian Ziering who took Instagram and voiced his concern for the actor’s current condition.
Coincidently, on the same day that his hospitalization was announced, a reboot of 90210 which shot Perry to fame spread through media. The remake will undoubtedly feature the original cast such as Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering who already signed on to the new project. But, Luke had not promised to be on the show regularly due to his ‘Riverdale’ schedule. Reports indicated that the actor would be taking a few guests spots to give in on the public demand for the reappearance of the older cast.
For the second time, the production of ‘Riverdale’ has been suspended due to the untimely death of its series star Luke Perry. Executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Warner Bros. Television together with ‘The CW’ said in a joint statement that Perry has been a father figure and a mentor to every young actor on the set and that his death will be a significant loss for everyone on the show.
‘He infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time’ the executives added.
Perry was in his third season on Riverdale as Fred Andrews and played a significant role in the development of the show.
The cast members of the show, whom Mr. Perry developed closer ties, issued a personal statement on their social media accounts. As the show suspended its airing, each actor took the chance to offer a heartfelt statement including Madchen Amick who said that he had bonded with Luke through shared stories about showbiz’s hustles and difficulties they similarly faced as parents.
Riverdale has currently scheduled to air a new episode for season three this week on The CW. However, there are no words yet whether the network will include any tribute to the late actor.
So far, the actor’s family appreciated the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world since day one of his hospitalizations until his last remaining days. The family also respectfully requested to give them privacy in this time of great mourning. Instead of flowers, they have asked that donations will be sent to ‘Fight Colorectal Cancer’ and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital instead.
No further details is released about the funeral as of the moment.
