A mother and her daughter were charged with five counts of homicide for the killing five of their relatives in an apartment in Morrisville, Philadelphia.
The bodies were discovered Monday according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office led by Matthew Weintraub, who is investigating the case.
The 45-year-old, Shana Decree, and 19-year-old daughter, Dominique Decree, were arrested by authorities as the principal suspects in killing five of their relatives, three of which are children.
The victims include Shana Decree’s 25-year-old daughter, 13-year-old son, and her sister, Jamilla Campbell with a twin nine-year-old daughters.
Campbell’s 17-year-old son was initially thought was missing but was later found at that he was with his friends in Willingboro, New Jersey. Louisville Borough Police Chief George McClay said that the teenage son is not considered a suspect, but they wanted to look for him to make sure that he is safe.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the manner of death as well as the motive for killing the five victims as the investigation is currently going on.
The mother and daughter, who authorities said have no lawyers representing them, were arrested Monday after five of their relatives were found dead inside their apartment.
The two have changed their stories during the course of the interrogation. At first, the two claimed that one to three unknown men were behind the killings, but they later confessed that they were the ones who killed their family members.
When asked for the reason of the killing, Dominique Decree told investigators that ‘they [the victims] wanted to die. She also alleges that Campbell killed one of the children before she was choked to death.
Familicide, or killing one’s own family member is not new in the United States. In August 2008, Chris Watts was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, two daughters, and an unborn child. In March 2004, Marcus Delon Wesson was also sentenced for killing all nine of his children/wives whom he fathered with his legal wife and whom he also have children with. /apr
