PUBG vs. Fortnite: The Battle Of Revenues – Which One Do You Play?

PUBG vs. Fortnite which one do you play?

In 2018, Fortnite won the battle royale game title in terms of digital revenue. It made $3 billion while PUBG made $1 billion. Fortnite is responsible for 80 percent of overall digital games revenue in 2018. But both of the games are winners by their own right, according to SuperData.Fortnite sits on top of the free-to-play chart while PUBG is the highest earner in the premium games chart. Both games are extremely popular and are pioneers of the battle royale genre.

Fortnite Battle Royale was created by Epic Games’ Unreal Tournament team in two months. At the start, it seemed to imitate PUBG, they had some similarities but it overtake PUBG and won the popularity race.  It allows players to establish walls, floors and ceilings as easy as aiming and shooting a gun.

PUBG or also called as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds gained the most revenue in premium games in 2018. It was the first ever battle royale genre game which rose to fame. It was created by Brendan Greene. It is slower-paced and more realistic than Fortnite. It can be played on Steam for $30.

Both games have the same concept during matches. A player is a pit against 99 other players over a terrain. Thou Fornite’s ground is smaller compared to PUBG’s. In PUBG, each round starts in a plane that flies over the map; players can decide where they want to land. After landing, one must scavenge for weapons or items to survive. After a few minutes, an energy field begins closing the map, limiting the arena and putting players closer together until only one survives and wins the game or instead wins the chicken dinner.

On the Other hand, in Fortnite, each round starts in a bus suspended by a balloon. Similarly, players need to find items as fast as possible to defend themselves. Then if PUBG has an energy field, Fortnite has a storm that works for the same purpose.

Both games also share the same set of game modes, a player can choose to play solo, duo or in teams of four. Unlike PUBG where players can choose whether to play on first-person perspective or third-person perspective, Fortnite players can only play from the third-person perspective.

In terms of weapons, PUBG’s arsenal looks more realistic than Fortnite. Fortnite’s weapons are cartoonish looking. PUBG has more maps compared to Fortnite.

PUBG’S $1 billion revenue did not include its free-to-play mobile version, so the combined revenues could actually put PUBG as the second highest earning game of 2018, next to Fortnite. In conclusion,it doesn’t matter who won in terms of revenue in 2018. What matters is what game do you love more, PUBG or Fortnite?
