Japan: The World’s First Artificial Meteor Shower In Testing

Japan initiated testing for artificial meteor shower

Japan launched a rocket carrying seven experimental satellites on a mission to create the world’s first artificial meteor shower to be displayed at Hiroshima’s coastal region on 2020.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA ’s rocket, known as Epsilon-4 blasted off from Japan’s Uchinoura Space Center carrying the satellites created by a Space Entertainment Company, Astro Live Experiences (ALE) last January 18.

ALE’s goal is to imitate shooting stars at night by releasing four hundred small burning balls/particles from the satellites into the Earth’s atmosphere to bring about plasma emission. The company has been working on this project for ten years. They want to deliver entertainment at the next level and to be vital members of the development of science. If this experiment turned out to be successful, it would be the first of many celestial light shows.

The ALE-1 micro-satellite will create the world’s first artificial meteor shower. After the rocket’s launch last Friday, it detached from the rocket around 300 miles (500 kilometers) above the earth and will slowly descend to an altitude at around 250 miles (400 kilometers) next year. The other six satellites were also able to successfully detached from the rocket, stated by JAXA.

After ALE-1’s descend to the mentioned location, it will release small centimeter-sized particles, that will be on fire as they fall towards the ground before shattering at around 60 kilometers above the surface.
