Microsoft to supply Hololens to the US Army under a two year contract

Microsoft supplying Hololens to the US Army

Microsoft offered its high tech product, Hololens to the US military after bagging the bid for $480 million with the US government. This new tech for the military will be used during their combat, adding additional advantages to men protecting the land of the brave.

The 2 years contract between Microsoft and the US government will place possible order of more than 100,000 AR headset. A spokesperson from Microsoft said that this new technology will enable longstanding, a trusted relationship between them and the Department of Defense in this new area.

So what is Microsoft’s HoloLens?

HoloLens is the first self-contained holographic computer, enabling you to engage with your digital content and interact with holograms in the world around you.

One of the amazing things the Hololens has are specialized components like multiple sensors, advanced optics, and a custom holographic processing unit—enable users to go beyond the screen.

It is a well-improved reality device to use, for instance, combat missions and training. Having this technology to its vast array of military armory will be an advantage especially on foreseeing what to do before their enemy does.

Aside from the HoloLens, Magic Leap was also reported to bid for the US army’s contract but didn’t work out. It was previously said that the company’s efforts only focuses mainly on consumers. They have just recently released the first development kit of their startup while Microsoft had theirs for more than two years.

Last October, Google also attempted to push through and partner with the Defense Department. But Google backed out from a big project because of employees’ objections with Project Maven. And also, a possibility that the project may not coincide with Google’s proposition for the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

In a blog post, Microsoft legal Brad Smith wrote that they want the people of this country and especially the people who serve this country to know that Microsoft has their back.

Not like the virtual reality, which involves goggle-wearing to users in digital worlds, augmented reality system or AR covers images and data atop views of the real world.

Aside from HoloLens, there are different types of high tech VR headsets in the world. There are Google Daydream view and Samsung Gear VR. There are only a few AR devices made, but according to rumors, Samsung, Apple and Google are already making their version of AR device. Well, let us all wait and see for their upcoming new tech!
