Joshua Harris author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye released an apology addressing on the mistakes he has made in its content. His book talks about Christian dating, courtship, and waiting. He emphasized setting standards on relationships, living a life of patience, true love, purity and a purposeful outlook on singleness.
The book he wrote in his youth 20 years ago has now reached more than thousands of readers around the world, and over the years he has received feedback from people agreeing and disagreeing with him.
Joshua Harris is a Christian pastor who is also the author of the favorite Boy Meets Girl, Dug Down Deep, and Not Even A Hint. He said in a statement he released on Monday that he has changed his views on dating mainly on his book I Kissed Dating Goodbye. Through his growth in his spiritual life, he found out that there are some parts of it in which he doesn’t agree any longer, and that is on the main idea of his book that ‘dating should be avoided’.
The title of his book has made a lot of people curious about dating advice and such. Some benefited from it, and some said that it has ‘harmed’ them creating fear in the hearts. He wrote it as a Christian teenager sharing his stories on dating and how he got through it. The main point of it is to make things right for other Christian youth who are also struggling in their relationships based on his experience.
However, after receiving multiple consistent reactions throughout the years about it made him re-evaluate the content of his writing. Some practices and concepts are not stated in the Bible which is now under careful thought. His apology follows an end to its production of his book I Kissed Dating Goodbye and a release of a documentary entitled ‘I Survived I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ further explaining his change of views.
Self-help books are tools for us to learn more but it should not dictate our direction, and it should not be the last call in our lives. It is our responsibility to keep our relationships in the center of its real purpose.
