Mac Miller or Malcolm McCormick, aged 26, found dead in a bedroom in his San Fernando Valley home. No official statement yet as to what caused the death of the young rapper/producer. However, sources claim it’s a drug overdose.
TMZ reports that authorities were alerted by Miller’s male friend who placed a 911 call – responders were dispatched for a cardiac arrest situation.
Miller, known for channeling his struggles in his music, announced his quest for sobriety in a 2016 Vogue profile, says CNN. But, after his breakup with pop singer, Ariana Grande, his addiction to substance sprung again.
Last May, the rapper was charged with DUI and hit-and-run charges. In the wake of his breakup with Ms. Grande made things clear that his use for substance was the huge factor in calling it quits. Ariana commented “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety [and] prayed for his balance for years.”
Mac’s family released a statement confirming his passing. “Malcolm McCormick [knew] and adored by fans as Mac Miller has tragically passed away at the age of 26.” They added, “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans. Thank you for your prayers.”
Warner Bros. Records, Mac Miller’s record label, shared their statement via Twitter. “Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of [huge] potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.”
Mac Miller is scheduled to perform in October at the Greek Theather in Los Angeles. He released his fifth record last month dubbed as “Swimming.”
