Betty White was not found dead in her Los Angeles home despite rumors you may have heard or read. Betty White is still alive and doing well.
As a matter of fact, White’s agent, Jeff Witjas, assured that the actress “is on the set shooting ‘Hot in Cleveland’ right now,” he said.
So where did the hoax and confusion come from? Some White fans misread the headline of a satirical story published by Empire News on Wednesday that said “Actress Betty White, 92, Dyes Peacefully In Her Los Angeles Home.”
Empire News capitalized on the dye-die homophones for their Betty White story, and White’s fans unfortunately fell for the bait.
Instead of just reading the headline, if fans would have continued, they would have realized Betty White is not dead and instead the article talks about her being a natural brunette, not blonde.
The Empire News article was a story about White not being a natural blonde and having to dye her hair to achieve her famous golden locks.
“In a press release from her long-time manager Jeff Witjas, it has been confirmed today that actress Betty White, best known for her roles on TVs The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland, is not a natural blonde,” the Empire News article reads.
“Oh, I started dying it ages ago when my color started to fade away to a more whiteish, greyish color,” White supposedly told Empire News. “I thought to myself, ‘Well Betty, if you can’t have the dark color anymore, might as well try on the blonde for a while,’ and it just kind of stuck. When I played Rose on Girls, the joke about my natural hair color made it into several episodes. I’ve always had a sense of humor about it.”
It continues, “Betty is a solitary kind of person … She likes to relax in her home with her animals, and she rarely likes to discuss the fact, at least in public, that she is actually a brunette. She has been dying her own hair in her home for decades.”
