Celine Dion has cancelled her upcoming fall tour of Asia and her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace until further notice because of health and family reasons.
Celine Dion, 46, has been battling an inflammation in her throat muscles, from which she has not yet recovered. She has not been able to perform since July 29.
Meanwhile, her husband, René Angélil, had a cancerous tumor removed in December and his recovery has put heavy stress on the couple, according to the news release.
“Celine Dion has decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely, in order to focus 100% of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues,” a released statement says.
“It’s been a very difficult and stressful time for the couple as they deal with the day-to-day challenges of fighting [Angélil’s] disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule, and raise their three young children,” said a publicist for the singer. “Céline and family have requested that their privacy be respected at this time.”
“I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support,” Celine Dion said in a statement.
Fans who bought tickets for future shows are eligible for refunds.
In June, Angelil retired as Dion’s manager after 30 years.
The couple met when Dion was just a teenager. They then embarked on a romantic relationship when she was 19-years-old and Angelil was 45.
