A missing Oregon woman was found dead after two weeks of searching. Jennifer Huston’s SUV was found Tuesday in a rural and remote area of Yamhill County, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department said.
Police swept the area and found her body a short distance away.
Police said nothing indicated foul play but added that the case was an open death investigation.
“Because this is pending death investigation, we are not releasing the apparent cause of death,” Chief Brian Casey of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department told reporters in an afternoon news conference.
“We’re keeping an open mind, but I think we’ve got a pretty good idea of what happened,” Newberg Police Capt. Jeff Kosmicki said.
Jennifer Huston was a stay-at-home and mother of two sons, 6 and 2. She had been missing since Thursday, July 24, when she left home to run errands.
She was last seen in video footage when she stopped to withdraw less than $100 cash, buying Gatorade, trail mix and what police described as a nonlethal amount of sleeping pills at a drug store, then gas up her dark green 1999 Lexus LX-470 SUV.
Her husband, Kallen Huston, told reporters shortly after his wife disappeared that she had complained of headaches in recent days. The couple would have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary next week.
Husband, Kallen Huston, relatives and friends pleaded for the public’s help looking for her and the car, which carried Oregon license plates WXH-011.
Kosmicki said a property owner spotted the vehicle Tuesday morning, called 911 and read off the license plate of the green SUV to Yamhill County dispatchers. Kosmicki said his department contacted the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and deputies were dispatched to secure the scene until crime scene investigators and detectives could get there.
“We didn’t have any other information that they had found the vehicle,” Kosmicki said, adding that paramedics were also dispatched in case Huston required medical attention: “That was not needed,” he said.
After officials processed evidence found at the scene, Kosmicki said, the SUV was towed away about 4:30 p.m. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
