Matt Bendik, Glee star Becca Tobin’s boyfriend, was found dead in his hotel room Thursday night.
Police were called to Philadelphia’s Hotel Monaco early Thursday afternoon and pronounced a man dead a few minutes after arrival, law enforcement told the Associated Press.
A hotel maid found Matt Bendik’s body Thursday at around 1 PM. Law enforcement sources say the housekeeper found the body on the bed, face down.
Police are calling it a “sudden death” and they do not believe foul play was involved. Law enforcement sources say no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found in Bendik’s hotel room. They also say there’s no evidence of suicide. And no weapons were found.
Reports say that Bendik had spent the evening of Wednesday, July 9, out on the town with friends, and everything appeared normal. TMZ reports Bendik was not known as a partier, and friends are shocked and devastated by his sudden death.
Becca Tobin was not in Philadelphia at the time.
A source told Daily Mail that Bendik’s family is ‘devastated’ by the tragedy and that Tobin, who had hoped to marry Bendik and have children with him, is ‘inconsolable’.
“Matt’s family is devastated,” the source said. “His parents worry he may have died from a heart attack because he worked so hard, almost a workaholic. He had plans for a major career, he wanted to do well. He and Becca were madly in love and talked marriage and having a family. She is inconsolable.”
“He was a great guy, totally clean, didn’t do drugs, he was just extreme ambitious which his family fears led to his death. It’s very sad because Becca was so in love and saw a long future with him,” the source added.
Bendik owned several nightclubs across the country, including Los Angeles’ DBA Nightclub and AV Nightclub, but he was not known as a partier.
Bendik’s death comes just days before the anniversary of another Glee star, Cory Monteith’s passing. Sunday, July 13, will mark a year since Cory Monteith’s sad death. The 31-year-old star died of a drug overdose in a Vancouver hotel in 2013.
