Tyson Chicken Nuggets Sold at Sam’s Club Recalled Due to Pieces of Plastic Found

Tyson Chicken Nuggets Recall

Tyson Foods has voluntarily recalled more than 75,000 pounds of chicken nuggets sold at Sam’s Clubs nationwide because the nuggets may contain pieces of plastic, the company says.

“The company has received reports of minor oral injury associated with consumption of these products,” the USDA’s news release on the matter reads. “FSIS [Food Safety and Inspection Service] has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness from consumption of these products should contact a healthcare provider.”

The recalled products are:

  • 5-pound bags of Tyson Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Nuggets (item #16142-928). They have a “Best if Used By” date of Jan. 26, 2015, or Feb. 16, 2015. They also have the manufacturer codes 0264SDL0315 through 19 and 0474SDL0311 through 14.
  • 20-pound bulk packs of fully cooked nugget-shaped chicken breast patty fritters sold to a single institution in Indiana and at the Tyson food company store in Arkansas. They have the case codes of 0264SDL0315 through 19 and 0474SDL0311 through 14.

The product bags bear the establishment number “P-13556.”

The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints that small pieces of plastic were found in the products. The problem was traced to a product scraper inside a blending machine.

If a consumer has a bag of the affected product, Tyson is asking them to discard the product and cut the UPC and date code from the back of the bag and mail it to Tyson Foods – CP631 P.O. Box 2020 Springdale, AR 72765-9989. You can also call Tyson Foods Consumer Services toll free at (866) 328-3156.
