Kitten Bowl 2014

If you’re not interested in watching the NFL Super Bowl XLVIII between Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos today at 5:30 PM CST on Fox, there are other program options on different channels.

The Puppy Bowl is back for the 10th year on Animal Planet. Animal Planet says, “Puppy Bowl returns for its tenth consecutive year with an all-star, all-adorable cast that’s ready to mix it up on the grand gridiron of Animal Planet Stadium. Puppy Bowl X brings viewers a loveable lineup that’s itching to play in a winning combination of terrier tackles, touchdowns, puppy penalties, fumbles and Fido first downs.” They add, “Back for another year is the popular Bissel Kitten Halftime Show, guaranteed to bring the house down! And, sideline reporter “Meep the Bird” will return to tweet live updates throughout the game.”

“Puppy Bowl” starts at 3 p.m. Sunday on Animal Planet and runs in repeats until the next morning.

There will be another option for those who don’t care about football or dogs.

Hallmark Channel is introducing its first ever “Kitten Bowl” that will feature all kittens, all the time. “We are exclusively kittens. We are invested in kittens. We are believers in kittens,” Hallmark President and CEO Bill Abbott told TODAY. And not just 13. “We have 71 kittens,” he pointed out. The four teams of cats will participate in two preliminary playoffs before facing off in a championship game. On top of that, some of the felines even have names perfectly suited to football, including MeowShawn Lynch and Tomcat Brady, Abbott said.

“Kitten Bowl” begins at noon Sunday on Hallmark Channel, with repeats ending at midnight.

Nat Geo Wild is getting in on the fun too with their Fish Bowl. Goldie the goldfish will entertain in “Fish Bowl I” from 6 to 10 p.m. on Nat Geo Wild, then starting all over again, at 10 p.m.

“It’s four unadulterated hours of goldfish magic,” says Geoff Daniels, executive vice president/general manager of Nat Geo Wild. “Whenever somebody tunes in, there’s going to be all sorts of new elements that Goldie (the goldfish starring in the special) will have been introduced to that I think the audience will get a kick out of.”

Destination America is airing an afternoon Toilet Bowl (noon ET/PT), a marathon of bathroom-renovation series King of Thrones.

The Weather Channel will be starting at 4 a.m. Sunday with Jim Cantore and Jen Carfagno live in Punxsutawney, Pa., for something called “Weather Bowl Groundhog Forecast.” From 7-8 p.m., the network will offer the “Weather Bowl 2014 Halftime Show,” to feature championship-celebration forecasts for both Denver and Seattle.

AMC will have “The Zombie Bowl” which features a marathon of “The Walking Dead” episodes starting at 9 a.m., and concludes with an episode at 4 a.m. Monday. The series’ fourth season debuts at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.
