A 33-year-old Oklahoma man has been charged with killing his stepfather by giving him an “atomic wedgie” that caused him to suffocate.
McLoud police and Pottawatomie County deputies were called to the residence about 10:10 p.m. Dec. 21 to 4 Shadow Lake. Brad Davis, 33 said he and his stepfather, Denver Lee St. Clair, 58 fought, and he thought St. Clair was dead.
According to an affidavit, Davis claims his stepfather “swung first,” that’s when Davis fought back, giving his stepfather an “atomic wedgie.” Davis said after the fight his stepfather stopped breathing.
Davis told investigators that he hit St. Clair in the head, causing him to lose consciousness. Then, the fight ended with Davis giving his step father an atomic wedgie which caused him to suffocate with his own underwear.
Davis called 911, but St. Clair was dead when police arrived at the scene. “I’d never seen this before, but when we first looked at our victim seeing the waistband of his underwear was around his neck,” Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said.
The cause of death has been determined to be from blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxiation. The death has been ruled a homicide, said Amy Elliott, Oklahoma state medical examiner’s spokeswoman.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Deputy Travis Palmer said Davis told investigators that he and St. Clair were drinking beer on the night of Dec. 21 at the older man’s residence, when St. Clair began speaking ill about his wife, who is Davis’ mother.
“We continued our investigation and uncovered evidence that led us to believe that this was more than just a fight,” said Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth told KJRH-TV.
Police arrested Davis on Tuesday and is being held at the Pottawatomie County jail on a homicide charge.
Booth said a full report has been presented to the Pottawatomie County District Attorney’s office where a murder charge is expected to be filed.
St. Clair was under a permanent protective order filed in 2008 by his wife Tressia Ann St. Clair.
In the 2008 protective order, Tressia St. Clair claimed she found her husband embraced in a “sexual way,” with a drinking buddy and that he later grabbed her by the neck and threw her through a bathroom door, NewsOK reported.
A domestic assault and battery misdemeanor case against Denver St. Clair filed in Pottawatomie County District Court that year was dismissed, according to the Oklahoma Supreme Court Network website.
An atomic wedgie occurs when the bully grabs the underwear of his victim and pulls it over his head — usually causing the underwear to snap along with some major discomfort for the victim.
