Ford Motor Co. announced its first-ever EcoBoost-powered F-150 sport truck for 2014 called Tremor.
The F-150 Tremor combines Ford’s FX appearance package, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, 4.10 rear locking differential and a number of premium features with the body of a short wheelbase, regular cab truck. Both 4×2 and 4×4 models will be available.
An electronic locking rear differential that’s standard for both two- and four-wheel-drive versions helps deliver the power to the pavement by improving traction during takeoff.
The F-150’s 3.5-liter V6 is unchanged from other versions of the truck, meaning it cranks out 365 horsepower at 5,00 rpm and a solid 420 lb-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm.
Ford says the Tremor’s fuel economy will be the same as the standard F-150’s 16/22 mpg on regular fuel (for 4×2 models).
“The new Tremor gives F-150 customers yet another option to drive a highly capable, distinctive performance truck with features typically found only in the aftermarket,” said Brian Bell, F-150 product marketing manager, in a statement. “Plus, the Built Ford Tough EcoBoost engine is available for the first time in a short-wheelbase F-150.”
The Tremor’s FX Appearance Package features flat-black accents that include 20-inch flat-black wheels, stylized body side graphics and black badges with red lettering.
Ford says Tremor is the only regular-cab F-150 offering a flow-through center console and bucket seats. The Interior includes black leather seating with red piping, brushed-metal accents and a red-stitched steering wheel. Alcantara seat inserts add texture and style as well.
The F-150 Tremor will also include the MyFord Touch with SYNC connectivity system. Designers have optimized the physical interface for MyFord Touch to accommodate truck users who may be wearing work gloves by providing easy access to climate controls and audio presets on the center stack.
Ford has not release pricing for the new truck, but Automobile Mag reports, “We wouldn’t be surprised if it comes in just below a 2013 FX2 Supercab with the EcoBoost engine, which starts at $38,005. Expect finalized figures to emerge shortly, as Ford says the 2014 F-150 Tremor should be on sale by this fall.”
Ford says Tremor will be priced less than the $45,000 Raptor.
It will be built in Dearborn and Kansas City.
