The iPhone is now available on all 4 major US carriers. This morning, T-Mobile unveiled their new pricing plans, its new LTE network and the availability of the Apple iPhone. It has been rumored for the past year and T-Mobile just recently confirmed it would carry the iPhone sometime in 2013.
April 12th looks to be the go live date as said by Tmonews for the phone to be available. How much will the phone cost on the carrier? That depends on when you would like to pay the carrier.
A 16GB iPhone 5 will sell for $99 up front and have 20 months of $20 payments. If monthly payments are not to your liking you can buy the phone up front for the full unsubsidized price. The plan changes are apart of an entire company re-branding as they move to “Uncarrier” pricing plans.
“These bold moves serve notice that T-Mobile is canceling its membership in the out-of-touch wireless club,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile USA, Inc. “This is an industry filled with ridiculously confusing contracts, limits on how much data you can use or when you can upgrade, and monthly bills that make little sense. As America’s Un-carrier, we are changing all of that and bringing common sense to wireless.”
“T-Mobile is the only major U.S. wireless company to offer iPhone 5 with no annual service contract plus unlimited talk, text and Web on a screaming-fast nationwide 4G network. And because there are no annual contracts, customers make the decision when to upgrade their devices — not the carrier.”
Plans will be pretty simple for consumers wanting the iPhone. They will have a single plan to choose from.
“T-Mobile’s new Simple Choice Plan starts with a base rate of $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and Web with 500MB of 4G data.Consumers can add 2GB of 4G data for $10 per month per line or get unlimited 4G data for an additional $20 per month per line. Customers can add a second phone line for $30 per month, and each additional line is just $10 per month. There are no caps and no overages”
T-Mobiles new LTE network was also announced Tuesday. It has launched the new network in 7 major metropolitan areas including Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Jose and Washington D.C. Estimates from today’s announcement say they are expecting the LTE network to reach 100 million people by mid 2013 and 200 million nationwide by the end of the year. Their current 4G HSPA+ network reaches 225 million people in 229 metropolitan areas.
Apple will also make the iPhone 4 and 4s available for a bit less money in select markets. Details on the markets and full prices are not yet available. Qualifying customers will be able to purchase iPhone 4S for $69.99 up front and $20 per month for 24 months. The iPhone 4 will also be available for $14.99 up front and $15 per month for 24 months.
