You don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are on the rise

You don't need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the riseOr at least that’s what the rest of local news wants you to know all across America. Have you caught your news anchor on your local news station informing you that you that, “You don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are on the rise.” Apparently Conan O’brien noticed and his “Team Coco” thought it was funny enough to put together a video montage of news stations around the country letting you all know the same thing.

It does bring a bizarre question to mind if all local news anchors go off of the same pre-written source for producing their nightly news scripts. Even CNN is using the same exact phrase as you can see in their in depth transcript of one of their newscasts on February 21st, 2013.

There are some local news stations like CBS Philly Channel 3 HD that are even using the phrasing of gas prices going up in their actual written news content as well. This article posted on February 22nd, 2013 even starts out with the introduction, “If you’ve filled up your tank lately, you don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the rise.” There is a video of the news station saying the same thing so it’s obviously quite an echo chamber going on here.

While we’ll be the first to admit that prices at the pump have jumped quite considerably, it would be nice to think that news has some type of unique approach. Our guess is that it’s something directly from an AP wire or another related news wire service informing news stations that this is a hot national story. When you put all the news casts together it does start to sound a little frightening. It doesn’t seem quite a leap to see how soon robots will be reading the news, why not? Either way, you don’t need us to tell you…
