Country singer Mindy McCready, died on Sunday, February 17, 2013 of apparent self-inflicted gunshot to herself.
Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss said his office received a call to her home with a report of gunshots being fired around 3:30 p.m. local time in Heber Springs, Ark., west of Memphis and north of Little Rock.
In a statement, he said officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 p.m. and found McCready’s body on the front porch. The case is under investigation; McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Moss said her family has been notified of her death.
“At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37 year old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. Mcready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated.”
Mindy McCready was struggling with substance abuse and was in and out of rehab. In 2010 she even appeared on the third season of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” McCready had attempted suicide at least three times.
Aside from her being arrested multiple times for drug charges and probation violations; she was also hospitalized for overdoses several times, including in 2010, when she was found unconscious at her mother’s home after taking a painkiller and muscle relaxant.
Mindy McCready’s boyfriend, David Wilson, died in January of a self-inflicted gunshot wound as well. At that time, Mindy McCready was ordered to enter rehab after David Wilson’s death. Her two children, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9-months old were taken from the country singer. She was released after one day to undergo outpatient care.
Mindy McCready’s song hits included the 1996 country debut single, Ten Thousand Angels, and the chart-topping Guys Do It All the Time. She released her last album in 2010 called I’m Still Here.

Country star Mindy McCready suffered a devastating blow when her boyfriend committed suicide on Sunday. Authorities say David Wilson passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 34-year-old record producer was the father of Mindy’s second son, Zayne. A medical crew responded to David’s home around 6:15 p.m. Sunday night, and he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
