TiVo released their Super Bowl commercial rank on Monday and declared that the Taco Bell Super Bowl Commercial, that featured seniors breaking out of the retirement home, as the “most engaging.”

Tivo senior vice president Tara Maitra says it ranked so high on the list because, “It’s funny. Humor is always been a criteria for the popular ones.” She noted the top 10 ads all had some humor to them.

In the Taco Bell Super Bowl Commercial, Bernie Goldblatt and his old school amigos from The Glencobrooke Retirement Home “Live Mas” when they sneak out for a wild night they’ll never forget.

With the band Fun. singing Spanish rendition of their popular hit, “We Are Young” in the background, the wild seniors do everything you would think a teenager would do when they sneak out of the house late at night.

At one point in the Super Bowl commercial, one of the senior citizens gets their last name, Goldblatt tattoo’ed on his back.

Just when you are starting to question what this Super Bowl commercial is trying to advertise, you see the seniors sitting outside a Taco Bell eating when a police officer drives by.

In TiVo’s top ten list for Super Bowl ads, nine of them were aired online before they were broadcast during the Big Game.

TiVo executive Tara Maitra said there’s a trend toward commercials being previewed before the game, as well as advertisers enlisting the public to help create and pick the commercials they air. “This shift reduces the element of surprise in making a commercial successful,” Maitra said.

“The most engaging ads are determined by looking for spots with the biggest bump in viewership relative to the surrounding 15 minutes of programming, offering a true reflection of change in viewership,” the company said its announcement.

TiVo bases its analysis on data collected anonymously from 30,000 TiVo users across the country. It measures viewer engagement by looking at the portions of a broadcast that are viewed at normal speed versus the ones that are fast-forwarded through.

TiVo measures user habits, anonymously of course, through its set-top boxes. “It gives us the ability to take a real granular look,” at user habits, she said. The top 10 ads, as measured by TiVo, were:
