Instagram For Android Released for Free Download in Google Play Store

Instagram Android App

If you are an Android phone user and have been waiting for the popular iPhone iOS Instagram app to be released to Android, the time has come. Instagram Android app has been released to the Google Play store today for free download.

The Instagram app description says it will work with devices running Android 2.2. Instagram promises custom-designed filters and borders, front and back camera support, the new Lux photo-editing feature, and instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare. Flickr support is coming soon, Instagram said.

To use Instagram just open it up and either capture a photo or choose one from your photo gallery. Once you upload the picture, the app allows you to move and scale your image. After you’ve selected a composition, you can run the image through the ‘Lux’ feature by pressing the Sun icon in the far left of the next screen (Lux, similar to Camera+’s ‘Clarity,’ amps up photos by boosting their contrast).

After you decide on the specs of the photo you want to post, click the green check mark and input a description and a Twitter-like hashtag for search, geotag the photo, and share to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Posterous, Foursquare or via email.

Instagram wrote in a blog post announcing the Android app release, “We’ve been working tirelessly to make this new Android app a first-class mobile photo-sharing experience. We’ve been meticulous about translating the Instagram experience to the Android platform. The Android app offers an extremely familiar Instagram experience when compared to the iOS app. You’ll find all the same exact filters and community as our iOS version.”

Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom told VentureBeat, ““We’re really excited about Instagram for Android as the next big step for our company. This release brings us closer to the idea that we can help every person on earth share their lives and discover the world through a series of beautiful images.”
