Eating Placenta New Trendy Thing For Moms Giving Birth, ask January Jones!

Eating Placenta

There are some new fads or trends that you just have to shake your head at. While you might be shaking your head, eating your placenta is supposed to be incredibly healthy for you. The topic has popped back up after People Magazine interviewed Mad Men’s January Jones and found out she touts placenta eating as a way to get healthy after giving birth.

January Jones Placenta EatingWhy did January Jones decide to eat her placenta? She tells People herself by saying, “Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins. It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas. It’s not witch-crafty or anything. I suggest it to all moms.” So now that you’ve heard someone famous is doing it are you rubbing your hands together?

The trend really isn’t new and has been done for centuries in other cultures. The new health trend for pregnant mom’s has been building in the United States however and many people are looking into placenta recipes and even services that produce tinctures and capsules for use over time.

Why would someone go to all the trouble of doing something a bit on the bizarre side like eating their own placenta? The benefits are touted as hormone balancing, breast milk production inducing, uterus contraction and nutrient replacement after childbirth. It is said that the hormone balancing can prevent postpartum depression in mothers that have just given birth. We promise that eating human placenta isn’t just a Hollywood created fad!

The medical term for eating a placenta is called Placentophagy. If using homemade recipes for placenta stews, cooking or placenta smoothies really throws you for a loop there is a more acceptable way to eat your placenta from birth. It’s a method that has been used by the Chinese Culture for an extremely long time and is called Placenta Encapsulation. The placenta is made into a powder and put into pills that you can take over a period of time and get the same benefits as eating a raw placenta.

With that said, there are many people doing it the traditional way and we’re going to give you some YouTube videos below for your own placenta eating adventures.

The video description is as follows:

Ever heard of a woman eating her own placenta after having a baby? Women all over the world engage in this strange practice and it is said to have many health benefits. Warding off postpartum depression is one of the most common reasons modern day western women have been seeking this method out and it’s gaining in popularity. Though still many have a hard time finding this anything less than disgusting.

I decided to give eating my placenta a try and this is my story of the whole experience.

  1. Another reason

    April 16, 2012 at 7:11 am

Here’s another thought regarding animals eating their placenta: The majority of the births in the animal kingdom are not in a “protected” area. The time period surrounding birth is a dangerous one, for mother and offspring. The mother can not escape a predator during this time as easily. By ingesting the placenta, the mother is helping to ensure that she and her offspring will survive by removing a substance that gives off a distinctive scent which would attract predators. Hopefully, we humans don’t have to worry about protecting our young from predators that would eat them.

I don’t think this is trendy or even normal. If I chose to eat my appendix after the surgeon removes it, I would be committed to the loonie bin. The argument that “it is her RIGHT, it is her BODY” is utterly ridiculous”.

10 Reasons To Hate About Highly Processed Food

If you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve a healthier body, you should start avoiding highly processed food. And, here are ten reasons why: Click To Tweet

Research proves that eating highly processed food can lead to over weight gain.

Is losing weight one of the challenges you are facing now? Did you try different kinds of diet or exercise, and nothing seems to help. Are you a busy person who likes to eat at fast foods? Or, maybe, you don’t know how to cook yet, and you love to eat preserved and refined food available at the grocery? Well, my friend, this article may somehow help you.

According to a recent study at the National Institutes of Health, eating highly processed food causes overeating and unwanted weight gain. Twenty adults participated in the research conducted by the NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and prove the latter can be destructive to your health.

Here’s how the nitty gritty goes: For the duration of the study, ten males and ten females are admitted at the NIH Clinical Center for one month and in random order for two weeks on specific diets of highly processed food or minimally processed food.

For reference, a highly processed meal may include a bagel with cream cheese and turkey bacon, on the other hand, a minimally processed meal may consist of oatmeal with walnuts, bananas, and skim milk. Both of the diet types had similar amounts of calories, sugars, fiber, fat, and carbohydrates, and participants can eat whatever they wanted.

As a result, when it comes to a highly processed diet, individuals ate almost five hundred calories more daily compared to unprocessed food. In average, they gained 0.9 kilograms or two pounds while on a highly processed diet and lost the equivalent amount with unprocessed diet.

The study supports the idea that unprocessed foods have a lot of benefits, but researchers take into account that highly processed food is challenging to avoid since it takes more time and money is to prepare. Eating a healthier diet may pose challenges, especially to people who are financially challenged.

As stated in, highly processed foods include ready to eat food (such as crackers, granola, deli-meat) and pre-made meals (such as frozen pizza and microwaveable dinners).

According to’s Jennifer Fox, these are the reasons why you should hate and ditch highly processed food as much as you can:

First, they are mostly composed of sugars. Having too much sugar can lead to a list of health problems and harmful effects on metabolism. Second, they lacked fiber (which slows down carbohydrate absorption and helps us feel full with lesser calories). When eating highly processed food, we need to eat more of it, so that we will feel complete.

Third, they are designed to be addictive. The primary reason why it’s challenging to stop eating unhealthy and processed food is that it’s chemically modified to be addictive. When eaten, dopamine or the feel-good hormone is released. That’s why we sometimes feel good after eating a ton of processed food.

Fourth, they can cause mood swings. A study conducted by the UC San Diego team found out that trans fats (found in processed food) can make people more irritable and more aggressive. Fifth, their labels seem like contents from a chemistry book. Most ingredients listed on the Ingredients section of processed food are not only hard to pronounce, but they are added to improve its taste and texture and to make its shelf life longer.

Sixth, they increase your sodium levels higher than the recommended levels. Too much salt can lead to higher risks of high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. Seven, they can cause sleeping problems. When we intake a high dose of processed carbohydrates, our body struggles to adjust with the unanticipated spikes and crashes in blood sugar levels. That’s why you can have a difficult time trying to fall asleep if you ate processed food before bedtime.

Eight, they are low in nutrients. Nine, They can lead to overeating. As discussed earlier, we need to eat more processed food to feel full, compared when eating whole and unprocessed food. Ten, they are composed of processed oils and trans fats, which are harmful to the body.

All of us have different types of food that we love to eat, but then again, we need to keep in mind, that to achieve more things in life, one should make healthy choices on what food she/he should eat.

Life is too short to worry about carbohydrates and what other people think. But then again my friend, I would like to leave you with straightforward advice. Just like what they say, remember that too much love can kill you and so does too much highly processed food.

People Switching To Plant-Based Diets? Here’s What You Need To Know!

Plant Based Diet

The plant-based diet focuses on solely having vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds on your plate. It is simpler to understand than other food that requires more and is complicated. Although going plant-based is not just a set of meal plans to follow for the rest of your life, it poses as a lifestyle instead. This diet encourages people to live a healthier life by eating the right food and avoiding all animal products.

The diet can be quickly compared to being vegetarian and is often confused with it. Vegetarians exclude all poultry and meat on their plates, but others still include some eggs, dairy, or seafood to their diets. However, Vegans put an end to any food harvested from animals. And, the difference is more significant than what others could think.

There has been a lot of studies about why eating plant-based is the best for everyone, while there are also those who strongly oppose. Some questions have been raised and answered, but are hard to believe because of how people have set their minds on false information.

It is not just about diet and losing weight, but helping the environment preserve animals that are slowly suffering due to the increasing demand for consumption. How curious can we understand about going plant-based?

Switching from a full meal to plant-based can be quite tricky and challenging as it requires tons of discipline. On a daily basis, reducing dairy and meat products is the perfect way to start since once you go all vegan, the practice will help you eliminate the cravings of it. Remember, that going plant-based is a process of turning around wrong mindsets and lifestyles. Start from within, and everything else will follow.

If you are looking for a diet that will be effective, plant-based diet will be the best decision you will ever make—next to saving your life. It improves how our body responds to everyday stress as it helps boost energy, thinking, and movement. People who have survived the bargaining days of switching to plant-based can attest that their lives have been changed by it. Their sleeping patterns have also been renewed and are enjoying every single day of going plant-based.

According to researches, adopting plant-based diets creates a healthy pattern of living compared to those who try to experiment and mix their foods with non-vegetarian meals.

The whole plant-based thing has been going viral on the internet and social media since the start of the year. People who started with the challenge #Veganuary have already been entirely sold-out to the idea of it. Records showed that the number of people who participated this year had been the highest compared to other years, where people have not been fully informed about the facts and benefits of the plant-based diet.

It may be somehow difficult to plan a meal as it feels like its availability is limited, but some stores have been promoting and supporting this diet—you just never cared about it. Soon, the whole thing won’t just be a hype that people dive into but a staple on the menus, as it becomes known around the world.

A lot has been encouraged with the fact that it can change and save a life from health conditions and other chronic diseases. Another benefit of this diet is that it lessens the risks of diseases lurking around the corner like heart disease, cancer, cognitive decline, and diabetes. Following plant-based diets eliminates the development of these.

For those who fully understand what it takes to go eternally plant-based know that it does not only benefit oneself, but also their surroundings. Accordingly, they leave no footprints on hurting animals for food; they help in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. It is sustainable and cheaper than any other diet, and it also helps farmers through the purchasing of their local plant-based products.

Start from challenging yourself to a one-whole week of plant-based diet and track the changes in your health, physical appearance, and your lifestyle. Rest assured, there are no regrets for being kind to animals and yourself. Remember, everything is a process and enjoy every moment of it. We only have one life to live, make it beautiful and worthwhile!

WTO Food Safety Forum To Take Place This April

WTO Food Safety Forum

The World Trade Organization (WTO) shall hold the International Forum on Food Safety and Trade on April 23-24. The conference aims to create mechanisms for the future of food safety and to engage support for reaching goals in the sector.

The WTO will conduct the forum in Geneva, Switzerland. Its purpose is to address the significant problems affecting food safety such as the increased mortality and sickness rates caused by bacteria and other toxic substances found in food.

The organization tallied that over 600 million individuals acquired illnesses, while 420,000 died because of unsafe food. The impact of this problem also caused over $90 billion worth of productivity loss. Experts also provide that climate change and global food production have the highest effect on consumers and the food industry.

The WTO stressed that the presence of these issues makes food safety a primary goal. It added that there should be measures observed from production and harvest until the distribution of food to ensure safe handling of these products.

In response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Director-General José Graziano da Silva said that food safety leads to food security. He added that it is society’s shared responsibility to safeguard the world’s food.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, emphasized that the issues regarding food safety worldwide do not gain political attention. He also commented that access to safe food entails a proper investment towards regulations and research facilities to aid this sector.

The talk on food safety is also in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals initiative. WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo noted that one of the elements of public health is food safety, so it should become the highest priority.

The two-day forum expects about 130 countries to take part in the event, which includes agriculture, health, and trade ministers, experts, consumer representatives, sister agencies, and civil society organizations. The conference shall also serve as a follow-up to the First International Food Safety Conference held last February 12 and 13 at Addis Ababa.

The event program states that the forum would include panel discussions and presentations which shall cover topics such as the benefits of investing in safe food, sustainable food systems, the science of food safety, and consumer empowerment towards creating healthy food choices and encouraging support for sustainable food systems. Each main topic shall have different branches and speakers to give the participants an idea of the general discussion.
