While many media places are reporting the Earthquake at a 7.2 Magnitude the USGS is officially released the Earthquake in Chile at a 7.1 in 2012. The official data from the Earthquake can be found at USGS’s site that details minor and major earthquakes.

At first the Government of Chile had started to evacuate the cooast to keep citizens safe the potential tusnamis and aftershocks. That has since been renounced and revoked according to Reuters news wire.

The area that has been hit by a quake today on March 25th, 2012 is not new to Earthquakes for this region. In 2010 a magnitude 8.8 Earthquake in Chile was announced and tsunamis spread damage and eath throught Chile. After all was said and done nearly 500 people were killed by the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile.
