Elizabeth Smart was married over the weekend in Hawaii to Matthew Gilmour. Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour got engaged last month and was going to wait until summer to get married, but she pulled off her dream wedding in just one month.
Elizabeth Smart told People in an exlusive interview, “It’s everything you can imagine with planning a wedding. Only, it’s compressed into a few days.”
With family and friends in attendance, Elizabeth Smart, 24-years old and Matthew Gilmour, 22-years old were married in Oahu’s North Shore. They decided to move the wedding up because the engagement attracted worldwide media attention and they wanted the wedding to be a private matter. A spokesman for Elizabeth Smart, Chris Thomas said, “Facing media attention that was growing increasingly invasive, Smart decided about a week ago that the best way to avoid significant distraction was to change her wedding plans and to get married in an unscheduled ceremony outside of Utah.” The couple is planning to honeymoon at an undisclosed location.
Elizabeth Smarth and Matthew Gilmour met in Paris while doing Mormon missionary work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and got engaged last month.
