The Dallas Morning News said in their newspaper that citing unidentified “individuals familiar with the episode,” saw Josh Hamilton drinking at the Dallas-area bar. The Rangers said in a statement to the newspaper that they are “aware of a situation, but we don’t have further comment at this time.”
This will be Josh Hamilton’s relapse for the second time, at least as we know of. In January of 2009 he had a relapse and drank alcohol in Tempe, Arizona and was photographed licking whipped cream off a woman’s breasts.
In August 2009 Hamilton said, “I got away from the one thing that kept me on the straight and narrow, and that was my relationship with the Lord. That should always come first. Hopefully some good will come out of this. It just crossed my mind that night, ‘Can I have a drink?’ Obviously I can’t and this reinforces that. Since that night, I have not had another thought like that. I know it’s something I shouldn’t do because it leads to other things.”
When the Ranger’s signed Josh Hamilton in December 2007, they were aware of his “off-the-field-problems and came out with a “zero tolerance” policy. He is drug tested three times a week. Josh Hamilton’s teammates support him and his sobriety so they celebrate their championships with ginger ale instead of champagne.
The Newspaper also reported that Josh Hamilton’s teammate, Ian Kinsler tried to offer him support on Monday night at the Dallas bar, Sherlock’s Pub & Grill. Ian Kinsler was attempting to get Josh Hamilton to go home instead of drinking.
Josh Hamilton has had some difficulty with dealing in the death of the Texas Rangers fan, Shannon Stone. Shannon Stone was the Rangers fan who lost balance when trying to reach for the ball that was tossed by Josh Hamilton into the crowd. He fell to his death when he lost his balance reaching for the ball on July 7, 2011. Josh Hamilton has kept in touch with Shannon Stone’s son, Cooper, who was at the game and has said Hamilton is his favorite player.
