Food Shortage at Salvation Army for Thanksgiving 2011

Salvation Army Food ShortageIf you’ve been wondering if there are people that need help this Thanksgiving season, you can assure yourself that there is a need. All over the United States Salvation Army food storage is low on supplies. There is a food shortage at Salvation Army in every corner of the United States and they need your donations and help.

In Lincoln Nebraska they only have enough food to fill about 20 boxes of food for families in need for Thanksgiving. Last year at this time they were able to fill over 200 boxes of food for families.

Another example is in Tulsa, Oklahoma where an organization called John 3:16 Mission is seeing extreme food shortages for their Thanksgiving distributions. Last year John 3:16 Mission was able to do food deliveries for four solid days and delivered canned goods, pantry items and turkeys to hungry families. At this current time the storage of this organization doesn’t have enough to even do a one day distribution.

Turkey Shortage For HomelessIn Jacksonville, Florida the Salvation Army there is more than just short on turkeys this year. On November 14th, 2011 it was reported that the Salvation Army in Jacksonville had no turkeys at all for their normal Thanksgiving distribution. The Salvation Army normally had a food vender that offered large donations to the organization of turkeys for their Thanksgiving Turkey, canned good and fixings distribution to needy families. At this point, with zero turkeys to give out it’s going to be really hard to come up with 850 turkeys.

All hope is not lost as some Salvation Army locations around the country are doing ok in getting turkey and canned good donations. In Tucson, Arizona they seem to be getting close to having enough turkeys but could still use more donations. The numbers that were reported on November 17th, 2011 were that the Salvation Army was short about 280 turkeys and needed to provide 4,000 meals. South Tucson was looking better with a shortage of 20 turkeys needed to feed 1,800 homeless and hungry families.

You can find your local Salvation Army and make donations by visiting their website here and looking up locations, times and call them to find out what they need. This year is a tough one for America, the poor, homeless and hungry. Please make an extra effort to make sure everyone in America gets a good Thanksgiving dinner this year by helping out.

  1. Hey Gauss –

Sorry the Christian charity organization doesn’t embrace sodomy enough for you to care about the poor families they serve.

    Carry on,

  2. The views of the Salvation Army on homosexuality match my views exactly and this is one of the reasons I support the Salvation Army. They have the guts to stand up for what scripture says and they have not caved in to this perverted society we live in.

  3. I will no longer contribute to the Salvation Army. I think they would be more successful in raising money to help people if they had a more enlightened view of same sex issues. I found this on their website:

“Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex. The Salvation Army believes, therefore, that Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life. There is no scriptural support for same-sex unions as equal to, or as an alternative to, heterosexual marriage.”

    • Although I agree that what they said on their website is bigoted nonsense, there’s still good reason to help the hungry. I will definitely donate food. I just hope they don’t press their homophobic views on those who need the help.
