The Guinness Book of World Records has Regis Philbin marked for the most time on air by a television personality. He has more than 17,000 hours on air with TV.

In a statement, Regis Philbin said, “I feel pretty good. I’m not saying I’m gonna feel as good on Monday down there in Miami, but right now… I wasn’t looking forward to this moment. You never are in your life, especially when you’re leaving a success that you worked your tail off to make, and it’s here. And why not hang around and enjoy it? But I have and its time really to move on.”

You may be asking what Regis plans on doing after this. This is what he said, “There’s no concrete idea. I’m not juggling a lot of ideas that have come to me. Frankly, I haven’t had time to think about it. I’m just taking down my office. I’m looking at 28 years here. I don’t know what is coming. I think reality TV is a phrase, it’s not the truth. But you know, it entertains a lot of people.”

Who is going to replace him on the show next to Kelly Ripa? Regis talked about that and said, “Frankly I’d like to stay out of it. I don’t wanna disappoint other people looking for the job. Kelly is a great little storyteller in her own right. I tell ya, its not as easy as it looks, this cohosting thing. It just wasn’t for me. So we’ll see what happens, I’m interested myself to see who gets it.”

Over the past 28 years, Regis Philbin has had a few good co-host next to him on the show. The New York Times broke it all down, ““Live!” began as “The Morning Show” here in New York in 1983, with Philbin and Cindy Garvey as the hosts. Garvey left a year later and was replaced by Ann Abernathy. Kathy Lee Gifford replaced Abernathy in 1985 and was in the seat until 2000. Ripa took over in February 2001 and has been alongside Philbin ever since. No replacement has been named.”
