A new technology that keeps things from getting wet, developing corrosion or repels all types of oils is about to hit the consumer market. The new product is produced by Ross Nanotechnology Corp. and is called NeverWet.
The description from NeverWet’s website says, “At Ross Nanotechnology, we have developed a super hydrophobic coating that completely repels water and heavy oils. Any object coated with our NeverWet™ coating literally cannot be touched by liquid. Any liquid placed on this coating is repelled and simply rolls off without touching the underlying surface. Not only is this amazing to see, but it solves a myriad of problems.”
The discovery of the nanotech invention came when Ross Nanotechnology’s materials scientist Vinod Sikka started trying to find a product that reduced corrosion on steel products that are made at Ross Technology. After management at Ross Nanotechnology got the product to work the first time they realized they had a hit on their hands.
Mr. Andy Jones, President of Nanotechnology Corp was interviewed by Lancaster Online and said, “When we started getting it to work, we realized it solved a lot of problems rather than just corrosion.” The amazing things that Never Wet can do has started to be explored and in addition to preventing corrosion the nano-particle coatings can keep things completely free of bacteria, ice, keep them clean and dry as well.
If you’ve ever spilt a banana split on yourself or had your Coca-cola dumped down your shirt you can imagine how useful this would be. The NeverWet technology can be sprayed on your clothing and keep the stains, liquids and debris from staying on your shirt, pants or even tennis shoes. One market Ross Nanotechnology is trying to break into the shoe manufacturing industry. As of yet, there are no major shoe lines that are using the technology.
Cooks and chefs alike can agree that cleaning dishes, pots and pans is a pain and the NeverWet technology can really change this as well. NeverWet has now been perfected to withstand high heat and will last on cookware. Clean ovens, bed pans easier to clean and water resistant toilet plungers. Yes, even that pesky toilet plunger can come out completely dry out of the toilet, imagine that!
For all those addicted to their smartphones you might be surprised that if you were to spray down your iPhone 4S you could make it completely waterproof. A waterproof iPhone 4S would be a nice addition to the Apple product line. Don’t worry Android and HTC fans, your smart phone can be coated in the same NeverWet spray on tech and made waterproof. Mr. Jones was recently quoted as saying, “I sprayed my iPhone with NeverWet, submerged it in a foot of water for 30 minutes, took it out and it was good to go.”
To be completely honest, this technology is really hard to believe until you see it in action. The NeverWet technology is demoed below. Super Hydrophobic surfaces, and super hydrophobic clothing is demonstrated with chocolate, water, glass in more in this stunning video by Ross Technology.
