Parents are upset and concerned after they learned their 1st grade children were read a book by a former porn star, Sasha Grey. Sasha Grey was volunteering for the Read Across America program at Compton, California Elementary School. The event happened on November 2nd, 2011 and has become a talking point for parents on the web and on Twitter.

A spokesman from Compton, California School District told TMZ, “We have serveral celebrities who read to our students each year. The actress you have indicated was not present.” In the past, before social media and Twitter the school district might have got away with denying such a situation. It was Sasha Grey herself who confirmed that she was at the Compton Elementary school reading to the First Grade kids.

Sasha Tweeted on her Twitter account at @SashaGrey on November 2nd via a Facebook app, “Spent the am with Read Across America Compton, reading to the the sweetest 1st & 3rd grade students @ Emerson Elementary!”

On November 11th, 2011 Sasha Grey attempts to give a full explanation of the Read Across America problem that has got parents angry and complaining. On Twitter a link to an application called TwitLonger Beta provides the full message of Sasha’s Tweet which is:

“I am proud to have participated in the “Read Across America” program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read “Dog Breath” by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children. “Read Across America” is a program that was designed to promote literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental. I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent. I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am. I will not live in fear of it. To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational. I cannot thank my fans and “Read Across America” enough for supporting my decision. Your support and kind words continue to inspire me. I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives.”

Sasha Grey has publicly said she is done participating in the porn industry and has decided to become an actress in other roles. According to TMZ Ms. Grey was teh 2010 AVN award winner for best anal sex scene after starring in many different roles. TMZ has now obtained 11 photos of Sasha Grey reading at Compton Elementary school to the 1st and 3rd grade students. You may have seen Ms. Grey star in roles that are more mainstream like HBO’s “Entourage” and a film called “The Girlfriend Experience” where she starred as a hooker.

What do you think? Should parents be angry that their students were read books by a former porn star or should they be more accepting that people can change and move on from their past?

What you people seem to be forgetting is that these kids are going to grow up one day and say, “hey, remember that lady who read to us in 1st (or 3rd) grade? I just stumbled across her page. Turns out we were being read to by a porn star. There must be nothing wrong with being a porn star…she read to children didn’t she?” Well whoop dee doo!! Give her a gold star! All this does is let kids know that it’s perfectly ok to disrespect your body and not act like you have an ounce a dignity. Not only that but it’ll make them think it’s OK to sleep around and still be “a good person” cause you can always pick up a book and read to a child. Read between the lines here people. It’s only a way to make herself feel better about her past by associating with the most innocent, extremely young children. Kids are NOT stupid. They can tell by ones actions, how they talk and hold themselves if there’s something not right with them. What she should do is confess and become an advocate AGAINST pornography and the disgracefulness of it. It tears families down. ALong with anal sex. Why would you go in the exit when you can use the entrance. That thing is for pooping and pooping only. The anus is filled with bacteria. That cause disease and suffering. Anytime a major empire in history fell to the ground for good was when it submitted to sexual immorality. If she wants to be good for kids and really educate them about life and making wise choices, which ones like these DO lead to domestic violence by the way, she can make an even BIGGER impact on society by testifying against using your body in a disrespectful way and disrespect in marriages/relationships. A lot of girls like this DON’T actually find people who care about them but find instead people who act like they do and just want to use them for their money…their business! or just to have sex with. Those people don’t see you as a person, just an object to make a living off of, even if the person is giving them the ok to be filmed. If you have a dirty past, which all of us do to some degree, admit it, apologize for the people you hurt even if it was unintentionally, and receive forgiveness from those who are willing to forgive. For those who choose to be unforgiving, then that’s no longer on you. But for her to just go along like nothing what was wrong with what she’s done in the past IS wrong. Why else would she be choosing to drop acting in porn? Kids WILL look at porn and they WILL find out by word of mouth whether they heard about it now or later. The important thing is that she fesses up that it was wrong and rid as many sites or videos off the market as she can to prevent further harm. Kids DO NOT need someone like her as a role model the way she is now (not apologizing and testifying against it). They need someone like her who IS a postitive role model who can help prevent this downfall from others and not just brush it off like nothing. The children WILL know sooner or later. And then what? Will they say it’s ok to be a porn star and intellectual or will they have someone to remember who WAS a good role model and TRUELY cared about the children’s future by reading to them AND showing them what she learned the hard way in life and help guide them through the very demoralizing mistakes she made. She’s only done half the job and she knows it, or else she wouldn’t have switched from pornography to regular acting.

i dont think its a problem she reading to kids its not like they know what she’s doing and she hasn’t done porn in over 2 years get over it. It would be a problem if the kids knew who she was but i’m sure they don’t so she reading to kids helping them learn more she was dressed respectfully in front of the kids

I think it’s great to have people helping kids and getting them interested in reading. I really don’t think she can really be a threat to anyone reading to kids. She isn’t in child porn.
Plus if she was teaching me to read well I bet I would pay attention and learn to spell.

I think the real issue is: was her reading good or bad for the kids. This is a hard question. If she made a big fuss explaining to the first grades what she was doing in the movies she made, then that would be needlessly confusing and bewildering and in that sense, clearly harmful.

On the other hand, if she simply explained that she is an actress without going into further detail, and then did a good job reading to the kids, then it is clearly not harmful. Any feelings we may have about Sasha Grey as a person are then irrelevant.

I suspect that Sasha, being a clever girl, did the second. This allows her to provoke the hell out of people like merle above, who thereby contribute to her continued infamy and professional success.

well done Sasha, breaking from the stereotyped mould and doing something that is helping others.
i dont think anyone should care about someones past
its the future that is important and people who denigrate other people who havent ever hurt anyone else i find are usually the ones doing it to take away the focus on their own indescretions!!!

Seems sorta funny how many people are griping bout Sasha Grey reading to the kids, bet the same parents that are griping are the ones renting her videos after the 1st graders go to bed. Says something that is not pretty about the attitude in America?

The problem here is that porn is not illegal, and she probably has no shame about her past. She did not serve a jail sentence, or make an honest and open effort to denounce her former actions. She rides on her fame, not her conscience, pun intended. Exposing her for what she is by speaking out against women like her is the right thing to do. That is like saying it is ok to break up familes with your smut, for which you have no regret or even a conscience, then invite her to educate the most vulnerable in our society…children. And if people that these little ones dont have any idea about who she is, then they ought to think again. Children are not stupid, and even at the tender age of five, they are innocently exploring their sexuality. Porn is demoralizing, and woman who fuel this industry and make a packet for it, are out of bounds with sacred sanctity of the sexual act, just as are those who watch it. Domestic violence is closely linked to pornography, so not only did she make a packet with her sly and evil participation in this, she has contributed to the cycle of violence against women in our society, for which she has brazen disregard. She does not belong in a elementary school environment, she belongs in jail- or hell, if society continues to refuse to make willful particiaption in pornography illegal, just as prostitution is illegal. WAKE UP PEOPLE! MEN WHO ARE ADDICTED TO PORN ARE DEPENDENT ON EVIL WOMEN SUCH AS THIS LITTLE HUSSY! Sex is the one constant contributor to the demise of society, be it affairs, pornography, pedophiles, rape and child sex trade. I have not seen an article or public statement from her denouncing pronography or an acknowledgement of how evil it is. So to all the parents who object, make it your mission to see she is hounded at every school she attempts to read to children. She should be going to high schools instead and speak out against the perils of pornography. Until she makes some very open statements about this, I have ZERO respect for her or any other porn “star”. That we put someone like her on a pedestal is a reflection of how sick our society really is. Shame on the school board for allowing this..it seems they were just as smitten as her addicts her watch her!

Just like the article stated, people can change for the better. I wont deny that porn is bad for people. She just made a mistake and joined the adult industry. Go read up on people’s background before judging them. Her parents divorced when she was just 5 years old. In high school she was unhappy. In the adult industry, there are people who she feels are there for her. More so than anyone else. Its people like you who just can’t see that people can change. If she wants to do something beneficial for the public then let her. Just because people make a mistake doesn’t mean you should shove them away from society. I’m pretty sure all of us have made mistakes, just that some are worse than others. If you feel that way then why don’t you go shove yourself into prison? Or hell for that matter. =)

Your comment could only make sense if Sasha Grey were teaching children how to make anal sex less painful or how to blow a guy properly. She was reading to children. It may have escaped your attention, but it’s a good bet that none of the kids saw her movies and know what she did, so get off your soapbox and open your eyes. It has nothing to do with Sasha Grey’s past. It’s a story of a woman reading to children. Period.

The Walking Dead Movie Will See An End To Rick Grimes

Published

on

Source: AMC

AMC announced during the San Diego Comic-Con Friday that Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) will be making his return to the zombie apocalypse universe; but in a movie, instead of the network’s long-standing series.

The announcement followed a short and bleak teaser for the upcoming movie featuring a helicopter flying at the brink of looming dusk over a city skyline. The video ended with the words “The Walking Dead” and “Rick Grimes Returns: Only in Theaters.”

The films were first announced in late 2018 following Andrew Lincoln’s departure from the flagship AMC series, on which Lincoln played the role of Grimes since the pilot.

The last we’ve seen of Grimes was halfway through the most recent Season 9 when he was bleeding and heavily decapitated aboard a helicopter that was headed to an unknown location. Although it was evident throughout his last episode that he was determined to get back to his family in Alexandria, referring not just to lifelong love Michonne and last surviving child Judith, but also his friends and comrades.

The series jumped six years after Grimes’ last appearance, and it seems apparent that the zombie slayer still has not made his way back home.

With AMC’s The Walking Dead universe chief content officer Scott Gimple already announcing a trilogy of movies, and Lincoln recently signing on the first movie, fans are expecting that it will bring a more conclusive end to this sheriff’s story in the universe.

Lincoln stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that The Walking Dead movies would “complete” Rick Grimes’ story in the zombie apocalypse, suggesting they could mark the character’s final appearance once and for all.

Furthermore, Gimple noted that the movies would embark on the story following after The Walking Dead 9×05—Grimes’ last episode in the series—as he is also tasked of penning the storyline.

What remains unclear, however, is in what timeline does the movie coincide, especially with the 6-year leap that the series took. Some fans predict that the trilogy will tell the story of that gap, while some speculate that it will be way after the current timeline because of Grimes’ absence in the series.

“We’re going to tell the story of what happens after that helicopter flight, and these are going to be big epic entertainments,” Gimple said.

Furthermore, the question of whether the movie will take place is also heavily speculated, with some outlets saying Philadelphia because of the stark similarity of the city’s skyline with the one featured in the trailer.

“[Rick is] flying off in a helicopter, away from Virginia, and it’s going to be a new world — a very new situation with its history, and very, very different from what we’ve seen before,” was all Gimple had to say to EW regarding the topic.

What is for sure as of the moment is that AMC and Universal Pictures are developing the films but an official title for Rick’s return and an official release date has yet to be revealed.

AMC initially planned to begin production as early as 2019, but it is unclear if that is still the case. Recent comments from Lincoln from The New York Times suggest that they will be releasing the first movie as early as next year, in 2020.

Meanwhile, The Walking Dead season 10 is due to begin airing this October, and the sister series “Fear the Walking Dead,” was picked up for a sixth season on Friday.

Additionally, the comics, which the series was based and has recently concluded, shows signs that AMC is not planning on stopping. The network announced a third and untitled series that will tell the story of the first generation of kids to grow up during the zombie apocalypse.

Lincoln’s exit was a major blow for The Walking Dead, with Danai Gurira confirming her exit from the series in Season 10, as well. Currently, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride are now the longest-serving cast members on the popular series.

Regarding the fate of the upcoming movie, there could be two scenarios: the movie will help boost back viewership for the TV series or that it will flop due to the declining number of fans of the show, which seemed evident since season 6.

LOOK: ‘Cats’ Musical Trailer Released And Fans Are Confused

Published

on

Photo: electrictuesday | Flickr.com | CC BY 2.0

Universal Studios dropped a full-length trailer of the live-action film adaptation of the 1981 musical Cats.

The movie, directed by Tom Hooper, is set to be released in December 2019. Hooper is known for his work with The King’s Speech and The Danish Girl.

The musical adaptation stars Idris Elba as Macavity, Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, James Cordon as Bustopher Jones, Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella, Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy, and Ian McKellen as Gus the Theatre Cat.

Aside from the actors, the movie will feature artists like Jason Derulo and Taylor Swift, playing Rum Tum Tugger and Bombalurina, respectively. Francesca Hayward, a ballerina in the Royal Ballet, will be featured as Victoria. In the movie, Hayward’s shy cat character will have a ballet solo.

Cast members like McKellen and Swift promoted the release of the trailer in their social media platforms. McKellen encouraged fans to check out the trailer released on Friday. Swift posted a photo of the glittery bottle with a catnip label with a caption “Friday,” adding a tag of the movie’s official Twitter account.

The musical is all about a tribe of cats called Jellicles. The group comes together and works on an annual life-changing ball. Once a year, the leader of the clowder chooses one cat who will be reborn based on their belief that cats have nine lives.

Cats is one of the longest-running Broadway musicals. It brought to life songs like Memory, The Rum Tum Tugger, and Mr. Mistoffelees. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.

The musical was a worldwide success for its great composition and ensemble performances. In 1994, it earned over $2 billion worldwide.

CGI Scare

In Broadway or West End production, actors don heavy amounts of make-up and lavish costumes to portray real-life cats. The costumes make use of fur to have the feel and look of our feline friends.

However, in the trailer released, the director and the studio forewent extensive costumes and opted for computer-generated imagery or CGI. According to Time, Hooper referred to it as an all-important “digital fur technology.”

Fans have long-awaited the film adaptation. However, not all were pleased with Hooper’s “digital fur” vision. Fans took to Twitter about their thoughts on the newly-released trailers. Twitter users have already created memes using screenshots from the trailer.

Comments about the actors’ faces being disfigured from too much digital modification. Some say that you need to take a second look to identify who the actors were in the movie.

Others criticized the film adding digital breasts on the characters, which is a ploy to make the characters look “sexy.” Others also pointed out that the cats were too small when scenes showed them inside a house and a theater.

Broadway Musicals with Film Adaptations

Cats is not the only musical film adaptation that received criticisms from fans.

In 2007, the film version of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was criticized for casting Johnny Depp before the movie’s released. Fans feared that Depp’s amateur singing would greatly affect the outcome of the film. However, because of the theme’s dark tone, Depp’s portrayal of the twisted demon barber overshadowed any expectations of his singing.

This was not the case for Russell Crowe when he got the role of Javert in Les Miserables. Fans criticized Crowe’s singing and wrong interpretation of the character. A film critic said that when Javert is supposed to shout with a booming voice, Crowe decides to speak in whispers.

Hooper also directed Les Miserables. Fans are quite intrigued if Cats will be the director’s redeeming chance with musical adaptations.

Despite not hitting all highs with Broadway fans when it comes to film adaptations, fans keep on clamoring for more.

Recently, Hollywood has taken on this trend of creating live-action film adaptations. Disney has released musicals such as Beauty and Beast and Aladdin. The studio’s live-action take of Lion King has just been released.

However, Broadway musicals have been adapted to film way before the Disney trend. Notable Broadway performances such as Rent, The Sound of Music, and West Side Story have been adapted for the silver screen.

Other than Cats, Broadway hit Wicked is also rumored to have a film adaptation.

Tom Cruise Unveil Top Gun: Maverick Trailer At SDCC

Tom Cruise is returning to the Top Gun franchise after almost 3 decades since the first installment and introduce modern innovations to aviation in the movie.

Published

on

Source: Paramount Pictures

Brace yourselves; Tom Cruise is making his latest return to the big screen in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick movie, which he introduced as a surprise during a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

People attending Paramount/Skydance’s panel at the flooded Hall H in SDCC was shocked when Cruise suddenly walked on stage to talk about Top Gun: Maverick that’s set to be released next year — but the show was far from over when the panel unveiled the film’s first trailer. Shortly after it aired in Hall H, the Maverick trailer was released online

Initially, Hall H was reserved to be a panel discussion solely about Tim Miller’s Terminator: Dark Fate. The director and stars of the movie talked about their Terminator return and introduced some new footage to the crowd.

“Thirty-four years ago, I made a movie in San Diego and shot across the street in a restaurant,” Cruise told the crowd. “I was always asked, ‘When are you going to do another one?’ Well, you’ve been very patient with me. I felt like it was my responsibility to really deliver for you.”

Mr. Cruise was last seen in the Top Gun franchise back in 1986, where he reprised the role as the United States Navy’s elite fighter pilot Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Based on the latest trailer, he will be playing the same character, but a lot older. There’s still a lot of high-flying in fancy new jets, more drama, and risk-taking. There’s also glimpses of Cruise’s iconic bomber jacket and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Other than that, the 2020 addition to the Top Gun franchise will see the latest innovations in aviation. Top Gun: Maverick is said to be set in a world of drone technology and fifth-generation fighters, along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting. Maverick is now a flight instructor, who takes Bradley Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (initially played by Anthony Edwards), under his wing.

Furthermore, Maverick is seemingly still a high-flying captain, whose superiors want him to climb the career ladder as quoted from the trailer: “30 plus years of service, combat battles, citations, only man to shoot down 3 enemy planes in the last four years yet you can’t get a promotion, won’t retire, and despite your best efforts you refuse to die. You should at least be a two-star admiral by now yet here you are… Captain. Why is that?”

Based on that, Maverick will also be going over the answer to that question. Would it be because of the death of his long-time partner and co-pilot, Goose? That’s something that has yet to be discovered.

Jennifer Connelly, Cruise’s love interest in the movie, also has a significant role to play. Similarly, Miles Teller who will play Goose’s son and Maverick’s new protege will do too while Val Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom “Iceman”  in the sequel.

In addition to the return of Cruise and Jennifer Connelly to the Top Gun franchise, the Maverick trailer also introduces several new actors to the fold such as Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, and Ed Harris. Jay Ellis of Insecure will also appear in the film as a pilot trainee

The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed the 2010 Tron sequel, Tron: Legacy, as well as Oblivion, in which Cruise was also starring.

Furthermore, Top Gun: Maverick is a screenplay by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Edward Miller, and Zack Stentz. While Mission: Impossible – Fallout director, Christopher McQuarrie, oversaw the film’s reshoots.

Meanwhile, Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first movie with the late Don Simpson, will produce the 2020 installment with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison.

Deadline reported that Cruise would appear on Conan O’Brien’s Late Night on Thursday night to discuss the movie.

Top Gun was first released on May 16, 1986, and saw massive success in the box office after grossing more than $350 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.

Four weeks after release, the number of theaters showing it increased by 45 percent. The film maintained its popularity over the years and earned an IMAX 3D re-release in 2013.

Additionally, the film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Take My Breath Away” that was performed by Berlin.

Upon its release, however, the film received mixed reviews from critics but generally received praise for its action sequences, effects, and aerial stunts. Cruise and McGillis’ performance also received praise.

In 2015, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
