The first Angry Birds Store opened today, 11-11-11 at 11:11 a.m. in Helsinki, Finland. The store will allow you to purchase Angry Birds books, stuffed toys, and other merchandise related to the Angry Birds game. Also, the store has an over-sized slingshot that sadly doesn’t actually work. Maybe because of safety reasons?! Instead, the over sized slingshot in the store serves as a swinging bench for those who want to take a picture and display is as their new Facebook profile.
Before the store’s door opened this morning, people were camping outside for days to be the first into the Angry Birds store to purchase things from the shelves that are stocked from edge to edge.
You may be asking, why Finland and not the U.S. or China? That’s because the developer, Rovio, is located 15 minutes outside of Helsinki, Finland. Rovio does have plans to open another Angry Birds store in China sometime next year, 2012.
Angry Birds will also be coming to your PC and is set to be released on November 25, 2011 for about £10.20 (about $16). The Market for Computer and Video Games (MCV) reported that Rovio Entertainment has signed Focus Multimedia to be there distributor for the video game series.
A spokesperson from Rovio reported:
“Boxed retail is another way to reach more audience. Digital and mobile are still at the core of our business, but boxed retail is a good addition for taking the brand forward.”
Then Craig Johnson from Focus Multimedia said:
“Angry Birds is everywhere, successfully penetrating ever deeper into the mainstream on a daily basis. We’re thrilled to be Rovio’s distributor.”
The release of the movie tie-in “Angry Birds Rio” will be released before Christmas and “Angry Birds Seasons” in 2012. The deal between Rovio and Focus Multimedia will release PC versions of all three games to United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
