Joe Paterno Penn StateJoe Paterno’s new conference was to be held Tuesday, November 8, 2011 but was cancelled less than an hour before it was scheduled by the university.

Assistant athletic director Jeff Nelson said in a statement:

“Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today’s press conference cannot be held and will not be rescheduled.”

At age 84 and with 46 seasons as the Penn State head coach, Joe Paterno’s career is about to come to an end.
The New York Times reported Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator under Paterno, has been charged with sexually abusing eight boys across a 15-year period, and Paterno has been widely criticized for failing to involve the police when he learned of an allegation of one assault of a young boy in 2002 in the team’s locker room shower.

Paterno hasn’t been charged, but the failure to report Sandusky to authorities in allegedly sexually assaulting young boys has made board members of Penn State very angry.

Frank Noonan, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner reported to ESPN that he questions whether Paterno had a moral responsibility to do more.

“Somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child. I think you have the moral responsibility, anyone. Not whether you’re a football coach or a university president or the guy sweeping the building. I think you have a moral responsibility to call us.”

Another victim has contacted authorities Sunday after seeing Sandusky’s arrest Saturday. The victim is now in his 20s, knew Sandusky from The Second Mile charity and never told his parents or authorities about the alleged encounters with Sandusky. Details about this man or his name have not been released.
