Beavis and Butt-head cartoon returns to MTV October, 27, 2011 after 14 years since we last saw the duo in 1997. Beavis and Butt head aired for seven seasons from 1993 – 1997 and since then, MTV has changed quite a bit. That won’t change the way creator of the clueless cartoon duo, Mike Judge reflects the new reality show TV MTV has turned into.
What used to be mostly music for Beavis and Butt-head to comment on, will now be reality TV. MTV now has 60 percent of their shows to be reality TV, unlike in the 90’s when Beavis and Butt head first aired. With shows like ‘Jersey Shore,’ ‘16 and Pregnant‘ and’Teen Cribs,’ on MTV and Viral Internet videos, Beavis and Butt-head will have all sorts of good content to pick at.
From the promo trailer clips, it doesn’t seem like Beavis and Butt head have changed much in the last 14 years. They still sit on their couch and mock at clips on MTV, but now they sound more like grumpy old men than snarky kids.
Mike Judge commented on the new MTV lineup in comparision to the 90’s:
“I think it is easier taking shots at the reality shows than music videos. In the beginning of the first run, I did a lot of what I would call taking shots at the videos. But then a lot of times I would just have them talk about whatever, and it didn’t necessarily have that much to do about saying one thing or another about the video.”
“With the reality shows, it just feels like pay dirt to me,” Judge said. “Those shows have just been really fun to have Beavis and Butt-head watch.”
