Verizon to Announce iPhone Offering

Verizon will hold a press conference at 11 a.m this morning announcing the offering of an iPhone. AT&T has had a stranglehold on the device over the past few years and will now lose that advantage.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Verizon will offer unlimited data plans that will further hurt their competitors. An estimated 9-12 million AT&T subscribers are expected to make the switch to Verizon. According to a Consumer Reports survey in December, AT&T ranked as the worst cell phone carrier in the United States.

If this many users make the leap, the question then becomes will Verizon be able to handle the bandwidth. In 2007 AT&T struggled with the spike in traffic that came with the issue of the iPhone. Verizon insists that there network if fully capable of accommodating the increase.
Over the next few months an intensive marketing campaign can be expected from AT&T to try to withstand the impact.

  1. I think it would be unwise to make the switch immediately. For one, the iphone won’t have 4g most likely. I guarantee there will also be some network issues…there’s no way there won’t be. I worked for Verizon for 9 years and all they do is make empty promises.

I would wait and see what ATT offers in response as that may be much better than an unlimited data plan from the big V.
