Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin, during an interview that was aired on Sunday, made a comment in reference to abortion that he has quickly apologized for on Monday. Nevertheless, many who support abortion were outraged from the initial comment. Also, it has angered Democrats and forced Republicans to distance themselves from Akin, treating him as a political leper.
The comment was so damaging that the National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman, John Cornyn (R-Tex), let Akin know on Monday not to expect any money from the national GOP towards helping him get elected to the Senate, according to an NRSC aide.
The damaging comment was said in response to the question about is rape considered a valid reason for abortion.
