Pat Buchanan No Longer a Part of MSNBC

Pat Buchanan BookPat Buchanan and MSNBC parted ways on Thursday. Four months after his suspension in October and publication of Pat Buchanan’s book, “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?”.

When he was suspended, it was said that he was on medical leave, not suspended. Things finally came clean on Thursday with the announcement from MSNBC that, “We have decided to part ways with Pat Buchanan. We wish him well.”

Phil Griffin, president of the NBC-owned channel, said in the announcement about Pat Buchanan’s suspension, “The ideas he put forth aren’t really appropriate for national dialogue, much less the dialogue on MSNBC.”

On Thursday, Pat Buchanan wrote in The American Conservative post titled, “Blacklisted, but not Beaten,” “My days as a political analyst at MSNBC have come to an end. After 10 enjoyable years, I am departing, after an incessant clamor from the left that to permit me continued access to the microphones of MSNBC would be an outrage against decency, and dangerous.”

He also defended his book, “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?” saying, “If my book is racist and anti-Semitic, how did Sean Hannity, Erin Burnett, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Megyn Kelly, Lou Dobbs, and Ralph Nader miss that? How did Charles Payne, African-American host on Fox radio, who has interviewed me three times, fail to detect its racism? How did Michael Medved miss its anti-Semitism?”

Pat Buchanan then went on to attack the Anti-Defamation League reporting, “I know these blacklisters. They operate behind closed doors, with phone calls, mailed threats, and off-the-record meetings. They work in the dark because, as Al Smith said, nothing un-American can live in the sunlight.”

Ari Rabin-Havt, executive vice president of Media Matters said, “The book was not his first, nor his worst offense. He’s been making the same racially insensitive, anti-Semitic and homophobic statements for the past 50 years.”
