According to Palmer, the ship will be built as an exact replica to the original, down to the tiniest detail, but it will be equipped with modern technology that will prevent a repeat of the original fateful maiden voyage 100 years ago.
Construction of the soon-to-be luxurious cruise ship will begin next year, and will be ready for her maiden voyage in 2016. It will sail from London to New york, similar to the original Titanic that was supposed to sail from Southampton, England to New York. The cost of the ship has yet to be revealed.
Let’s hope they don’t duplicate the inferior rivets that sped up Titanic’s sinking.
Please don’t call the original a “cruise ship.” No such thing existed in 1912. The Titanic was an ocean liner. is there such a thing today? Yes, the QM2, purposely designed by cruise line Carnival to be and look like an ocean liner. The difference? An ocean liner was used to transport people across an ocean: a journey to a destination. A modern-day cruise is the journey minus a destination. An ocean liner is largely hull; a cruise ship is mostly superstructure. It looks like a hotel perched precariously on a piddling hull.
