Scotty McCreery was hit in the throat by a baseball while pitching for his high school baseball team, Garner High Trojans, on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that the country music star was pitching in the third inning against East Wake High School on Thursday when a one-hopper back to the mound hit McCreery in the throat. Scotty McCreery retrieved the ball, threw out the batter and stayed in the game.
Spokeswoman Beverly Keel of Universal Music Group in Nashville says McCreery wasn’t injured.
Coach Derik Goffena said, “He has been throwing very well and will continue to help our rotation. He took a grounder to the chin, but is OK. Scared him more than anything.”
Scotty McCreery pitched the first 4 1-3 innings for the Trojans and left the game with a 2-1 lead. He struck out six players and allowed seven hits, including a home run by the East Wake’s Christian Neal.
Scotty McCreery baseball stats overall has made him 1-0. He has pitched 13 1-3 innings, struck out 19 and walked one. He has allowed 13 hits and has a 2.06 earned run average.
Scotty McCreery missed over a full year of baseball when he was competing in American Idol in 2011. He pitched his first game of the season on March 10 and started as pitcher for his second varsity game last Thursday when he was hit by a baseball in his throat.
He graduates in June then heads back out on the road to tour with Brad Paisley before he starts college in the Fall. Scotty McCreery plans to go to North Carolina State University in Raleigh. “I have decided to head down to Raleigh where my dad went to college at North Carolina State for at least for two years and maybe transfer to Nashville then,” McCreery said. “I’m excited.” There has been no word whether he will be playing baseball for the Wolfpack baseball team.Scotty McCreery Gets Hit By Baseball in Throat,
