The Oscars are full of fashion & designers that are anticipating a red carpet showdown. What the actress wears will go down in Oscar red carpet history and for the Oscar dress designers too. It’s all about the best dressed and the worst dressed on the Oscar red carpet. Celebrities will walk down the Oscars red carpet posing for hundreds of pictures and chat with reporters about the designer they are wearing and why they chose that dress. Heads were turning at the 84th annual Academy Awards on ABC as celebrities walked down the red carpet.
Michelle Williams wore a red tulle gown with gathered and pleated strips of fabric attached at the waist and a little silver bow on her right side. Designed by Louis Vuitton.
Angelina Jolie had on a black velvet Atelier Versace dress with a zig-zag type of fashion to it down the front. Her hair was beautifully loosely curled and with red lips. Of course, on her side was Oscar-nominated Brad Pitt.
Penelope Cruz wore an off-the-shoulder Armani lavender ball gown and a beautiful necklace and matching earrings. She stood out by not wearing the trend of black, white and red down the Oscar red carpet as most star’s decided.
Rooney Mara decided on a white Givenchy Couture gown, custom made by Ricardo Tisci. It was a mermaid style dress with a flowy bottom to it. She opted for red lips on the red carpet as well.
Gwyneth Paltrow was in a white gown with bold cape detail from Tom Ford’s latest collection. She may be on the top of the list of best dressed for Oscar red carpet. She wore a natural nude look with her makeup making the dress the center of attention. Accessorized with a bold cuff bracelet and ring.
Cameron Diaz was wearing a fit strapless Gucci Premiere off-white gown down the Oscars red carpet 2012 with shimmery detail on the skirt.
Tina Fey had a navy gown from Carolina Herrera with a gathering at the waist that folded under. Her dress was sorta swept at the top right side and brought together with a black belt.
Sandra Bullock showed her sexy backside in a head-turning black and white Marchesa gown. Details of her Oscar dress included a gold center of a floral type pattern. The same detailing was on her dress shoulders which brought the whole look of the dress together.
Meryl Streep was in a floor-sweeping glittering Lanvin dress. Her dress had a neckline that plunged down and was a wraparound that gathered at the waistline with a detailed belt. She matched her accessories to the gold glittery dress.
Natalie Portman strutted down the 2012 Oscar red carpet wearing a polka-dotted, waist-defining vintage dress from designer Haute Couture Christian Dior from 1954. Pairing her vintage polka-dotted dress with a beautiful bold diamond necklace and a black clutch.
Jennifer Lopez wore a ’70s inspired silver gown by Zuhair Murad. Her red carpet dress for the Oscars had a design to it that could almost make you dizzy. The Oscar dress had strips that came from the ends of the dress and met in the middle of her waist. The Oscar 2012 dress she chose to wear also had cut out sleeves at the top of her arms. Jennifer Lopez decided on a nude natural look to her makeup and her classic smoked natural look.
Rooney Mara went for a new concept on the red carpet Oscar dress with a white Givenchy Couture gown, custom made by Ricardo Tisci. Cutting down in v-neckline and a flowy bottom.
Kristen Wiig continued with her nude gown look as she has throughout the awards season wearing a strapless dress by J. Mendel. A beautiful feathered type looking bottom that fit her body type perfectly. Opting for a dark nail polish and a nude makeup look and smoky eyes.
Milla Jovovich shined while she walked down the 84th annual Academy Awards red carpet with a one-shouldered gown by Elie Saab. She paired her Oscar dress with an Edie Parker clutch. Like most stars, she took the red lipstick down the red carpet for the evening look.
Octavia Spencer glowed in her sunburst embroidered white dress by Tadashi Shoji.
Maya Rudolph wore a lovely deep plum colored with embellished shoulders and belt gown by Johanna Johnson. Her hair was pulled to the side and was in beautiful curls. Her bracelet matched the details on her Oscar dress.
Kate Mara wore a pink shimmering flower detailed Elie Saab gown. Elie Saab being a designer for the evening it seems.
Glenn Close looked elegant with a deep green jacket and dress combination by Zac Posen. Her red carpet Oscar dress was tightly fitting in a mermaid type shape and gathered at the back with a bow tie in the back of her legs.
Viola Davis looked great in her strapless green gown by Vera Wang. The Oscar dress had an embellished top that cut down to a v-shape. The bottom of her red carpet dress was pleated in an accordion type fashion.
Leslie Mann walked down the Oscar red carpet with her strapless navy Roberto Cavalli dress. It had embellishments of sequince down the center of her midsection and a sheer tulle tied hanging down the front.
Shailene Woodley was in a white Valentino Couture gown inspired by Marie Antoinette at Versailles. This red carpet Oscar dress was quite unique. The dress had a hole type look to it down the center in a line. She had full length sleeves which isn’t something you see all that much on the Oscars red carpet.
Jessica Chastain looked very artsy in her gold and black gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
Rose Byrne maintained the ’70s look and vibe in her fitted black sequin Oscar gown by Vivienne Westwood. This was a far jump from what she wore at the SAG Awards, a white jumpsuit.
Melissa McCarthy looked absolutely stunning in her red carpet dress, wearing a blush gown by Marina Rinaldi. She likes to usually stick with mostly rich, dark color during the awards season, but this 2012 Oscar red carpet dress looked amazing on her and brightened things up. It was embellished with a silver belt and neckline.
Bérénice Bejo wore a mint colored red carpet dress that had crystal embellishments by the designer Elie Saab. Her Oscar dress had long-sleeves that were sheer and had a v-neckline.
Elie Saab took it home with the top Oscar dress designer for the evening at the 2012 Oscar red carpet. All the Oscar dresses in 2012 looked great on the celebrities and what a great evening to get all glamoured up and to look your best.
