Jackie Chan’s son has been arrested in China on drug-related charges.

Actor Jaycee Chan, 31, and Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko, 23, were detained last Thursday, Beijing police said in a statement.

Police said both actors tested positive for marijuana and admitted to using the drug, and that 100 grams of it were taken from Chan’s home.

Chan and Ko, along with another suspect, were detained in Beijing’s Dongcheng district after police received reports from local residents. Another suspect who sold the drug to Chan was detained on Friday morning in Xicheng district.

Those involved in providing locations for drugs face sentences of up to three years in prison, according to China’s Criminal Law.

The Chinese government putting a crackdown on drugs which has already landed several celebrity figures in jail.

Beijing police said on Monday that more than 7,800 suspects have been detained for being involved in drug cases so far in 2014. “Only 0.15 percent of suspects are from the entertainment industry, while more than 93 percent are unemployed,” the Monday statement announced, adding police have made unparalleled efforts on cracking down drug abuse.

“To pay attention to the celebrity drug crackdown can be helpful for the war on drugs, as drug user in China gains younger users,” a Beijing-based university professor of public security told the Global Times on condition of anonymity.

The use of drugs in China, particularly synthetic drugs like methamphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy, has grown along with the rise of a new urban class with greater disposable income.

Drug-related crimes carry harsh penalties in China including death or life imprisonment in serious cases.
