Being as it is less than two months before the end of the year, some magazines’ are starting to make their choices for “something” of 2012. Esquire has come out and announced their choice for the sexiest woman alive for 2012. What is nice about their choice is it not only refers to looks, but intelligence as well. Esquire’s choice, Mila Kunis, not only does a nice photo spread of the Ukrainian beauty but also demonstrates how intelligent she is. Once you pick up and read the November issue, you will be able to see how Mila shows off her brain as well as her other assets.
There is a saying that is usually associated with models which is, “All beauty; no brains.” Whether or not you believe this saying is true, it is a saying that you cannot associate Mila with. One obvious reason is that she is a television and movie star; not a professional model. Another not so obvious reason is when you talk with her; you leave the conversation with the impression that she is an intelligent person. Any non-believers should pick up the November issue and read the interview Esquire conducted with her.
During the interview, Kunis talks about when she went to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with Wolf Blitzer from CNN news. Kunis says that she watches CNN and MSNBC all day long, so she is obviously informed with what is going on in the news every day. So after two drinks, she starts talking and says, “So, about Ahmadinejad’s nephew…” Wolf was surprised that Mila followed politics. Obviously, there is more to Mila Kunis than meets the eye and she is a very determined person; as she has demonstrated with her dieting.
When Mila played the role of a prima ballerina back in 2010 for the movie “Black Swan,” she needed to lose 20 pounds to be effective in her role. She has recently put on 25 pounds and is unfazed by the weight gain. Kunis has said that her current weight is her normal amount; not the 98 pounds she had to be at for her role in “Black Swan.” Kunis says she loves meals such as burgers and greasy Chinese food. One thing that she can’t stand is when people whine and say they can’t lose weight. Kunis believes that you can lose weight if you exercise, diet and maintain self discipline.
“When people say, ‘I can’t lose weight,’ [I say] ‘No, you can,’ ” she said. “Your body can do everything and anything. You just have to want to do it.” Mila experienced firsthand how dramatically exercise and diet can change one’s physique when she ended up slimming down from 115 to 95 pounds for the movie “Black Swan.” Kunis recounted her experience and remembered how she went on a very low-calorie diet and did many hours of dance training for the movie.
“I don’t think I ever fully realized what a human body is capable of doing. But I think I was also, in a beautiful way, incredibly naïve. I believed I could do anything. I never for one moment thought that I couldn’t do it. I believe in hard work. In self-drive and self-worth.” Her determination can be said she received from her parents who without their determination, she would be back in the Ukraine and possibly be dead.
Inside the issue, Mila discusses her fleeing her native Ukraine with her family in 1991. She was only eight but remembers anti-Semitism was rampant and they needed to escape. Despite this, she feels the story was “made into something bigger than it needs to be.” Mila feels that her parents should talk about what happened as she simply was just tagging along. “My parents should sit down and talk about it,” she says. “They’re the ones who went through hell and back, who gave everything up. I didn’t do anything. I was eight years old, and I tagged along.”
Esquire’s choice for Sexiest Woman Alive 2012 seems to have been a balanced choice. Mila Kunis does have the beauty and brains to show how she is a well-rounded individual and not one dimensional. Also, Kunis has shown she is a determined person who works hard to achieve what she wants in life. Her childhood helped to shape her into the woman she is today. She survived her experience from fleeing the Ukraine with her family and ending up in the United States.
Growing up, she mentions how she had big eyes, lips and ears which led her to be picked on and bullied. Yet, the experiences helped her to develop a thick skin and a perspective on what’s important in life. Kunis, who is dating actor Ashton Kutcher, said, “I’ve learned it wasn’t a bad thing to be picked on, because when you’re little is seems awful, like it’s the end of the world [then you realize it's not]. I grew into my face.”
