CES 2013: Polaroid Store Called, “Fotobar” Will Print Smartphone Photos Into Wall Art

Polaroid Fotobar launches at CES 2013

If you thought that Polaroid was just going to lay down and let history roll all over it’s Polaroid picture legacy, you’re wrong. Polaroid is making efforts to bring a comeback to the photography market for people that want to see their photos enlarged. The slogan for the new Polaroid Fotobar is, “Life. Enlarged.” Someday you may soon see Polaroid Stores available in many locations ready to print your smartphone pictures as masterpieces for your wall.

In February of 2013 the first Fotobar retail location will launch for you to get those hidden digital gems hanging out on your phone, hard drives, SD cards and more into full wall art. What’s the lucky location to get the first Fotobar experience? Delray Beach, Florida will be the first Fotobar test for Polaroid as it tries to make a comeback in the new digital age.

Polaroid plans to do this utilizing the nearly 1.5 billion photos the Polaroid CEO, Warren Struhl says everyone takes in a single day. The CEO stated in their press release about their Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show Fotobar unveiling, “There are currently around 1.5 billion pictures taken every single day, and that number continues to grow in tandem with the popularity and quality of camera phones.” That’s a lot of pictures and Polaroid wants to print some of them out for you to get in your home and office. Mr. Struhl also hypothesized why those photos weren’t on your wall, “Unfortunately, even the very best of those pictures rarely ever escape the camera phone with which they were taken to be put on display around our homes and offices. Why? Because turning those pictures into something tangible, creative and permanent is neither easy nor fun. Polaroid Fotobar stores are going to change all of that.”

Every Fotobar store you walk into has one main purpose, “to help people release their trapped photos and display their memories in the form of premium quality art.” A studio will also be on site for photography sessions with a more professional flare. Prints of photographs from your hard drive  smartphone or SD cards can be printed on canvas, metal, acrylic, wood and bamboo. Most creations will be printed in Polaroid’s manufacturing facility and then shipped to your home.

If you want to add Instagram-like effects to your photos, that will be available as well at the Fotobar. You’ll be able to use their bar-top workstations to change things like contrast, red-eye correction, brightness and add filters in real-time. Getting your photos into the que for editing will be simple with a wireless transmission to all the editing centers and ability to have them printed professionally and shipped to your home.

If we see any extra interesting things at CES this January we’ll do a follow-up article. The official announcement of Polaroid Fotobars will be at the CES 2013 expo in Las Vegas from January 8th to 11th, 2013.
