Facebook released the final number of the initial public offering of their shares at 421,233,615 shares of their common stock.
The details directly from the Facebook Press Release list all the information below:
“MENLO PARK, Calif., May 17, 2012 — Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) today announced the pricing of its initial public offering of 421,233,615 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $38 per share. The shares are expected to begin trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market on May 18, 2012, under the symbol “FB.” Facebook is offering 180,000,000 shares of Class A common stock and selling stockholders are offering 241,233,615 shares of Class A common stock. Closing of the offering is expected to occur on May 22, 2012, subject to customary closing conditions.
In addition, Facebook and the selling stockholders have granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 63,185,042 additional shares of Class A common stock to cover over-allotments, if any.”
With all those facts out of the way lets look at some more interesting facts at how many shares 421 million really is.
There are more Facebook Shares being issued than there are people in the United States (listed as 311,591,917 from July 2011 U.S. Census Bureau).
There are more Facebook Shares being issued than the odds in the Powerball at 1 in 175 million. There’s about 2.4 Powerball winnings hiding in that pile of shares if you could have each share be a Powerball ticket.
There are more shares of Facebook than Android devices in the world (at 300 million total Android Devices in the world).

There are more Facebook Shares in this IPO being issued than the United States Bullion Depository in Fort Knox is holding at 147.2 million ounces of gold.
But wait, there is one physical thing out there that almost everyone has had at one point in their life that has a larger number than Facebook Shares in the 2012 IPO.
