Sylvester Stallone is famous for his portrayal of Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa who constantly fights his way out of trouble. Whether it is done physically or psychologically, the character always finds a way to endure and triumph over whatever hardships he might face. The character, throughout the movies, suffers loss from “Rocky III” to the finale in “Rocky Balboa.” Whether it was his trainer Mickey, more of a father-figure to Rocky, his good friend and one-time opponent Apollo Creed, or the death of his wife; the character always found the strength to move on in his life.
Sadly, Sylvester Stallone has had to draw on the experiences of his famous character when he lost his 36-year-old son, Sage, six weeks ago to a suspected drug overdose. If that wasn’t bad enough, he just got word that his half-sister, Toni Ann Filiti, has died of cancer in Santa Monica, California.
Just when you thought Sylvester Stallone was finished staring in action-themed movies, he found success in the 2010 action-packed film “The Expendables.” The movie was about a team of mercenaries who is given an assignment to assassinate a corrupt military leader and a rogue CIA operative on a Latin American Island. It was such a huge success that a second film, “The Expendables 2,” has been released this summer and is currently bringing money into the box offices. However, Stallone’s happiness has been short lived due to the tragic deaths of two of his family members.
Sylvester Stallone’s half-sister, Toni Ann, died this past Sunday at her mother’s home. She had battled lung and brain cancer for some time until she died in her mother’s arms. Her mother, Jackie, told UPI on Monday that “I was holding her in my arms. I had just washed [her] face and told her how pretty she looked, and she just fell asleep.” The 90-year-old-mother also said “She’s too young to go, but she wasn’t feeling any pain. “What a terrible month. First Sage and now Toni. It’s hard. At least they’re together now in heaven.”
One can only imagine the pain and heartache Sylvester must be going through. After her daughter died in her arms, Jackie said she then broke the news to her famous son who obviously did not take it very well. “He said he can’t take any more pain,” she told the paper. “He said he’ll always be there for her son.” Sylvester is Jackie’s son who she had with Frank Stallone, her first ex-husband. She had Toni with her second ex-husband, Anthony Filiti. Jackie has been married since 1998 to Stephen Marcus Levine, who is a doctor.
